Xtians who get it

I get so tired this time of year, listening to the "war on Xmas" nonsense.  It's esp. annoying to me when there seems to be no reason for it, no answers to my questions about it -- this is the sort of thing that helped drive me away from religion.  (btw, my questions are 1) who, person or company, is telling people in general not to say "merry Xmas", and 2) how is Xmas not covered by the word "holiday"?)

But thank goodness there are Xtians who actually get it:

John Pavlovitz, The war on Christmas cries overshadow the daily war on Christ by Christians

QuoteOf course there is persecution of people of faith, but we who live in America as Christians probably will never see or experience it in any meaningful way, at least not enough to invoke a battle posture. In fact when it comes to Christmas, the season more often puts us in the role of intolerant, overbearing zealots demanding that everyone else conform to our religious preferences and publicly reflect our inner convictions.

We are not the underdogs in whatever conflict there is during this season.

Charlotte Vaughan Coyle, A call to give up Christian privilege for the sake of religious liberty

QuoteConversations about religious liberty continue to stir the pot of our public dialogue. Some presidential hopefuls and other public figures say Christianity is under attack and Christian freedoms are being threatened. Since I am a Christian minister in relationship with a wide range of Christians across this nation, I can say confidently: "Baloney." It's not freedom that is being challenged; it is privilege.

Well, the "war on Christmas" stuff probably all started because whenever I hear someone say "Merry Christmas," I put a black bag over their head and drag them off to a concentration camp. If I see a Christmas tree in someone's house, I go right in there and black bag the whole family and destroy all Christmas paraphernalia. We get the cops to always pull over, and stop and frisk anyone wearing Christmas themed clothing.
Always question all authorities because the authority you don't question is the most dangerous... except me, never question me.

It does seem like we are beginning to see a real backlash against "outrage christianity." It is small, but it feels like it is growing. Hopefully, more christians with sense will start making their voices heard.

Fingers crossed.  I think this latest nonsense about the Starbucks cup may have been the tipping point.
