I can't stand jazz whatever it's played on...
This 99 times out of 100.

Jazz for me is an acquired taste in the same way as having my fingernails pulled out would be.

Booo (how very panto of me). Are you the same with prog rock by any chance?

Prog rock? Example please :)

An example would be Pink Floyd.  ;)

Although Prog Rock is a pretty general term that extends over styles that are heavily influenced by jazz as well.

Jazz, I don't claim to get it, maybe bits of it.  Sometimes I may judge those enjoying jazz as looking a bit dicky but it doesn't matter though really, to each his own.  Musicians I like have delved into jazz and bring bits back, I'm glad they did.

I'm glad I'm not going potty. I love Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon and Animals are two of my most often played albums.

I'm not such a fan of prog rock. Pink Floyd puts me to sleep.

Early Genesis is supposed to be prog rock, and so is Dream Theatre.
I have been told that Iron Maiden's latest album is also heavily prog rock influenced. I love Maiden's latest album so sought to find some good Prog Rock albums, but after a while of searching I gave up.

Pink Floyd has always been one of my most favorite bands and although I do enjoy both of those albums Delicate Sound of Thunder is still my favorite followed closely by The Wall.

A discussion on prog rock and noone has yet mentioned Led Zep??

Where would music be today without prog rock? I don't know either but it'd be poorer for it!

Must own up to being an early Genesis aficionado, though they tend  nowadays to be to be derided as effete and pretentious . Still any band that kept the egregious Phil Collins stuck behind a drum kit ( most of the time anyway) can't have been all bad.

I entertain this theory that nobody really likes it but that a small minority either pretend or persuade themselves that they like it, precisely ecause it is such a minority taste and has intellectual associations. Actually, it is really the other way round- the theory entertains me, because although improbable it is more amusing than the probable reality that there are people who do genuinely find appeal in what is to me an amorphous, discordant racket .

"Jazz" covers a wide range of musical styles. To dismiss all of them by invoking that one term seems a bit presumptuous, but to each their own.

I find the "indie" label kinda useless.
I suppose independence from major record labels is of some interest but it doesn't tell you much about the music.

For all you know it could be 'indie' because no major record label accepted it.

I would agree but to date I have yet to sit through a piece of music labelled as Jazz and really enjoyed it; that is to say I would go and buy it and listen to it again. It just seems to grate on my musical senses.

True enough , I  can see why people would warm to traditional jazz , though I personally don't. So, suitably chatened, I shall confine my anathema to the abstract contemporary stuff.

I genuinely find entertainment in it. I don't care about it being a 'minority taste', nor do I the intellectual associates. I just enjoy it.

I don't get how it is so hard to understand that somebody might find entertainment in it.
