Hi one and all. Greetings from Texas!

Thought people on this forum might be interested in the following story, if you haven't already heard about it...

Yes, this really has happened in the good ol' USA    Strange coincidence that Land 'O Lakes is definitely in the Bible Belt!

Sounds like a huge overreaction, who can mistake a magic trick for real magic? I think they're just mad because they couldn't figure it out.

Oh, and welcome to the Happy Atheist Forums!

Being accused of wizardry seems like being accused of keeping pokemon in captivity or something. There must be something in the water.

Sheesh!

I remember reading about a group that had a problem with "Barney" (the purple dinosaur thing)

You know when he reads a story, then the characters come to life?
Well, that's summoning.
Barney's in league with Satan.

Yesterday, I turned into a driveway,

Oh, how I love living in this state.  This is not far from Lake Wales, where the newest city commissioner is the former Grand Dragon of the United Klans of America (aka the KKK).  I am beaming with pride!

This story is the sort of thing you'd expect to find on The Onion News Network... you wouldn't think it'd actually happen. I'm speechless.

Yikes.  You also have the hub of lunacy that is Scientology in your area...

All for making a toothpick disappear? I thought he might be trying to teach the children 'petronus' spells to defend against the dementors or something. You never know when Valdemort might strike...

Cool. I love the occult even though I don't believe a word of it. We should all go out and "practice" wizardry just to piss them off.

Good idea --- I'll dig through my old AD&D books and see if I can get some of the spells to work....   ;)

It feels like we're living in the past. People are being accused of piracy and wizardry right and left. Bizarre.

Yeah, I read that one dude.  "Piracy" is a funny charge --- pirates were violent criminals who took people's possessions by force of arms: "give me your stuff or I'll kill you!".  How that relates to copying music or software is beyond me.  I don't condone the theft, but I hardly consider that "piracy".  (shrugs).

It's interesting how certain words are chosen for their connotations, especially in corporate America. I'm sure 'piracy' was chosen for the purpose of making the act of copying and sharing music as horrible as utterly possible. File 'sharing' is too much of a positive connotation. "We're just sharing the music, man. We're not doing anything wrong..." The record industry needed something more evil sounding in the case against Napster.

Haha, yeah, I agree.  "Sharing" is just as ridiculous a euphemism for "copying" as "piracy" is an exaggeration.

My goodness. It beggars belief!
What kind of sheltered existence do you need to embrace such ridiculous notions?

The word 'nonce' comes to mind.
QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.
