Hello, I'm Destiney.  I'm a 19 year old college student majoring in English/History and double minoring in German/Political Science.  I plan on being a history professor.

I joined this site because I'm looking for a community of non-believers.  I live in North Carolina (funny side note: I looked on the Happy Atheist map and there is NO ONE mapped form North Carolina, or South Carolina for that matter), where, often, if you move into a new neighborhood, one of the first questions you get is: "So, have you found a good church yet?"

I'm currently in an honors interdisciplinary course called Darwin's Plots: Evolution in Literature.  We only have 6 people in the class (I go to a private women's liberal arts college, so we have small classes) so, we're all on very conversational terms with the professor.  She says I have the "zeal of a convert."  As it happens, I in only about the sixth month of my "full out" atheism.  I was raised in a Southern Baptist home, but encouraged by my mother to read anything and everything and to open my mind (I'm one of the lucky ones).  After about seventeen years of going through the motions because I felt I would be ostracized (high school *rolls eyes*) otherwise and because I was genuinely afraid of Hell, I confessed to myself (and to my mother, and many friends, not so much my father) that I am, indeed, an atheist.  I feel more free than I ever have in my life and I just want to share in this experience with others.  So, yes, that's me, as far as my non-faith goes.

On other terms, well...you'll just have to find out.

Hello, Destiney.  I didn't want you to be the lone North Carolinian here so I registered today.  Howdy neighbor!
My husband and divorced over religious differences.  He thought he was God and I didn't.

Wow...haha, welcome to you!  I didn't know if there were REALLY no other North Carolineans here or if there were just no North Carolineans on the map.

Thanks for the welcome, you guys.
