I don't understand why all theists quote the bible as proof of god. Don't then understand that it's pretty much circular reasoning, if god is the one under debate, and thus the bible, his holy word, then you're really debating the bible. So how can you cite the bible if that's the very thing that's under debate?

Welcome to the forum, Imachristian.

Quote from: "imachristian"I think you need to define what you mean by "all loving" before you use the term. What does the Bible teach about God's love? I think it's different than what you're thinking.

The bible describes God's love as being unconditional in that it is extended to anyone....in that way, the Biblical God is understood to be all loving.

QuoteThe Bible does explain that God is right in creating evil because it results in his glory (Ephesians 1).

How is it logical to claim that God loves people yet is willing to use evil so that they may learn to glorify him?  To me, if you love someone you do not use them for self gain, especially not when potential harm is involved.

QuoteIt's not that complicated of an idea, that Jesus is a substitute sacrifice for sinners, who pays the penalty they were supposed to suffer in their place, so that through faith they can be innocent before God.

But it is complicated when you start discussing how justice is still served by having Jesus being sacrificed in the place of others.  The main argument for the sacrifice being  necessary is that it is part of God's perfect divine justice.  However, we would not consider it justice if a relative of a mass murder was incarcerated in place of the person who committed the crime.

QuoteThis is really the only legitimate answer to why Jesus sacrificed himself to God =P. It's the one the Bible clearly teaches.

Where in the Bible is the trinity mentioned and how does calling it the Godhead make it one god?  And yes, I understand the basic idea of the trinity...I am just no longer convinced it makes sense to understand it as monotheistic.  Would you rather I call it the Godhead sacrificing itself to itself?
QuoteYou probably just don't find this answer compelling because you don't believe the Bible.

If it were compelling then it would be compelling separate of belief...if you had to believe in the bible before accepting arguments for why Jesus makes sense then there wouldn't be much purpose in creating the arguments in the first place.
