Hi everyone

I grew up with a strong belief in God. I believed the Bible was the inerrant word of God. I believed Jesus was God and had come to earth through the womb of a virgin. He lived, taught and preformed miracles for 33 years then was crucified for our sin. I believed that after we die God would judge us and send us to either Heaven or Hell where we would remain for eternity.

What was I thinking?  ??? That whole story just sounds crazy. ::)

A few years ago I allowed myself to do something I always been too scared to do before. I allowed myself to question everything I thought I knew about God and the Bible. As soon as I allowed myself to ask "What if it's not true" I began to see there were no good reasons to think it was true.

I'm grateful to people like James Randi and Richard Dawkins for helping me understand it's OK to turn your back on crazy myths.

I feel free now and much happier then I was. There is no judgmental god tallying up everything I do and no mind police ready to condemn me of adultery for a thought I never acted on.

I know there nothing unique in my story and I'm happy to find a place with like minded people.

Hi Crocoduck

I think you'll fit in fine here. We have an active science section with a slight leaning towards evolution, I post a lot of the articles and I am fascinated by evolution. So get stuck in there.

Thanks for making the effort to sign up and join in.

Welcome to HAF.

Welcome, Crocoduck!  What a splendid username.
This is just the place for people in your position.  We will support you and suggest ideas.

There are many here who felt the same.  Christians talk about being 'born again', but for many new atheists the phrase has real meaning.

Too Few Lions

welcome to the forum Crocoduck. Great name, it sounds as made-up as the Bible!
The Christian worldview is just plain crazy, glad you managed to see the light and free yourself from that oppressive myth. It sounds like you're a lot happier and better off as a result  :D

Crocoduck

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

OldGit I couldn't agree more. Christians think they have the Gospel but the real "Good News" is that Original Sin is just a myth and we don't have to worship a blood thirst god who required human sacrifice in order to forgive us of something done way back in the Garden of Eden.

Welcome!

For those that didn't know, the crocoduck was first thought up by Ray Comfort and his sidekick in order to question evolutionary theory. The over-used "if ToE were true, then we should be getting animals such as the crocoduck" kind of thing. ::) It's become a symbol of mockery of creationist fundies since ;D

I'm not the biggest P Z Myers fan but I do love his Crocoduck tie.

Richard Dawkins also has one.

I wanted one when I first saw them but realized I've never worn a tie since I quit going to church.  :(

The only time I wear a tie is for official FFA things and cosplaying with friends.
