I'm on another forum where the Christians are there to seriously discuss philosophy, ethics, politics, etc.  There are a few extremist, rage-filled, hate mongers.  They are few and far between.  I'm using big words, aren't I?

The other day, I listened to a podcast where the Infidel Guy interviewed Tim Phelps, the son of notorious whack-job Fred Phelps.  Of all the insults and curses screeching through my mind... he's ust an imbecile.  Reggie (IG) was cool and amused, but this freak of nature was spewing cruel, idiotic crap and getting all worked up about it.  I had to chuckle with Reggie - this moron actually said that "fags are going to hell," etc, and in the same yelling bout added, "but it's my duty to be a warrior for God and preach to these beasts, these vile faggots, to tell them they have to repent."  Reggie asked, "So... if you tell them they have to repent, but they're going to hell anyway... what does it matter?"  Phelps couldn't answer any questions except with more of his psychotic drivel.  He was downright mean to the callers.  One lady called in after he hung up and said that there is a public record of Fred Phelps abusing his kids and brainwashing them.  His whole church is basically family.  He has a daughter and a son who escaped and probably pretend they don't know who he is.  Sheesh!

Of course the Christian community condemns what the Phelps family is doing, stating that it is immoral, hateful and simply non-religious. Yet, the Phelps actually apply what is written in the bible (supposedly a source of morality) and they do what they do for pure religious reasons. Homosexuals are abominations that God deeply despise. So to paraphrase Steven Weinberg, what is really going on here is that the Christian community, instead of using their religion to say what is moral (like they claim they do), they are using their moral sense to decide what is religious. If that's the case then what's the point of the religion ?
