We have a Dr Who thread, so why not a Star Trek one?

What do you love/hate about ST?

Off the top of my head to get the ball rolling...

Love:
Vision of the future
Adventure
Science!
Discovery
New alien foreheads every week
Holodecks, Transporters, Phasers, Warp, etc...

Hate:
Comparing Kirk and Picard
The name "Janeway"
That DeepSpace 9 had "Trek" in the title, but didn't go anywhere

Tank

Like
    Spock
    T'pol
    Warp Drive
    Transporters
    Phasers
    Tribbles (Awwwww)
    The Horta (Awwwww)
    NCC-1701

Dislike
    Nelix (The Bar Rodent)
Riker!! I wouldn't trust him to park my car, let alone fly a starship!
Janeway, make that Voyager, the low point IMO
The Borg, when they are depicted as dumb to suit the plot.

Never got in to the shows much, but liked the recent movie remake.

I particularly liked the new Uhura...

I adore Star Trek. I love the size of the universe, and that because it comes from many different minds, there's something for everyone. I love that even though some of the science is only there for the sake of the plot, they actually do really try to put speculative science into the show and they bundle it with hope. I love that it's so aspirational. I love how even though the characters are living 10 lifetimes in the future, I can relate to them. And I love the decontamination chamber on the NX-01.

I'm not wild about Voyager.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

There is a new film planned for 2012.  ;D

Star trek!!!
My favorite scifi series of all time~ *____*

Likes:
Data
Capt. Jean-luc PICARD
Tea, earl grey, hot.
Riker's ever changing magic  facial hair.
How ethically diverse it has always been.
Tribbles
Worf
Klingonese
Spock
Romulons (the race and their awesome ships)

Dislikes:
Troi's mother

In general, I just adore star trek. It's imaginative, fun, and just everyone can get into it.  I love The Next generation the best. The holodeck is still an idea I am looking forward to in the future.  Except when it glitches, and bullets become real. D:

So I have this buddy that looks like a Star Trek character. Big ears, pronounced forehead and eye bone, pointy teeth. Someone pointed it out once and that's all I see when I see him is the guy from Star Trek...

Which one is that?

The Magic Pudding

Waiting to see how the unknown guy on the away mission would die was always fun.
I'm glad Kirk was named after Cook and not Cortez.
I didn't like Data being destroyed but who knows, he may be retrieved one day.
There is no doubt, the Star Wars Death Star wouldn't stand a chance against a Borg cube, I'm not going to discuss it.

This kind of makes sense -
QuoteThe "official" (accepted) explanation is that in the time of the Enterprise's voyages under James Kirk, The Klingons encountered were from outlying Klingon colonies, where interbreeding and assimilation of other cultures was more prevalent than on the Klingon home world. The fullblood Klingons were encountered later, as the Federation spread through the galaxies.

I don't know specifically the one character's name who you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure it's a Ferengie (or something like that, probably spelled it completely wrong but don't feel like googling.)

Then again, I might be way off course.

Yeah, this guy. A Ferengi.

Always have a place in my heart for Trek. I did see some of the original series on NBC as a kid, but I believe just the last season. I did see it over and over as soon as it went into syndication and have seen every episode of TOS and TNG numerous times.

Do not like anything about DS9. Hated Janeway from Voyager but lusted after Seven of Nine. Never watched more than one or two of Enterprise episodes.

Built scale models of every version of Enterprise (including C, which I particularly like). Most have lights, or had lights. Also built scale models of other ships from movies and series.

I've had lots of trek books, props, pics, etc., including an autographed poster from Wrath of Khan (Shatner and Dee Kelly). Never went to a convention though.

I was very influenced by Trek and still am. I love cutaway diagrams and have several from various Trek ships.

So, yeah, big Trek fan, to include an LCARS display on my iPad!

I'm old enough to remember watching Classic Trek in its first run. When the first movie came out, I thought it just so-so, but excited to hear another would be coming out. Around 1990, a friend and I started my city's first (and only) fan club (was Captain of USS Starfire for 2 years)after we met at a convention in the Detroit area. Of course, several of the movies (I think up to ST 5) and STTNG had been going for about 3 years. We went to several conventions, have met all the Classic Stars and all the STTNG stars except Will Wheaton. I've eaten lunch with Shatner and accidentally groped Nichelle Nichols boob...*smiling fondly*. I was the only one at a convention that got Gates McFadden's autograph for free on a poster. I've presented all the stars I've met with rather expensive pens engraved with "Thanks from USS Starfire". I have so many books and other junk...some signed. I'm getting ready to offload all my ST stuff. I could use the money.
Hell, I even have a box of Cheerios (never opened) from the late 80's when they ran a promotion...*laffin*

Here is where it gets strange for me. And I don't remember the time lines all that well.

When STTNG came out, I thought it was fantastic, but couldn't stand the 'in-show' music. I still cringe when I hear it. I never saw the last season because I was totally bored with the character generation plots of the season before. When I come across a STTNG episode, I can't be bothered to watch it. It's funny how many of them were not so cheesy when they first came out.
Anyone remember...
Geordie and the Paclids???
Doctor Pulaski?
Lieutenant Reginald Endicott "Broccoli" Barclay III?
Wesley saving the ship every other episode?
Riker and Troi?
Worf and Troi? (BTW, She's so much more beautiful in person than on the show)
Worf and Alexander?
Tasha and Data?

Still to this day I don't like any other Trek...DS9, Voyager, Enterprise. Every one of them had great potential, especially Enterprise. But they ruined all of them.

I liked every one of the Classic Trek Movies, yeah, even the cheesy ST 5.  I don't particularly care for the STTNG movies because they had the 2 hour TV movie quality about them...however, I did like Nemesis enough to get a DVD of it.

The odd thing is that I went from a nut job trekkie to...*shruggin shoulders I really don't care*...until...

The last movie. Loved it. Fantastic. Can't wait for next years sequel.
The essence of the mind is not in what it thinks, but how it thinks. Faith is the surrender of our mind; of reason and our skepticism to put all our trust or faith in someone or something that has no good evidence of itself. That is a sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith is not.

Really liked the old star trek with Kirk and the crew.
Dislike the new with Picard, it was too PC and too much of a drama.

Quite liked Voyager, reminded me a bit of old star trek, but still too much drama in it.

Being a fan of Reading Rainbow is how I got into enjoying Star Trek.  LaeVar Burton was my hero when I was little and Reading Rainbow did a Star Trek episode because of him.
