QuoteA Brisbane woman jailed for adultery in the UAE has moved to sue the Australian government for failing to warn her that a rape claim could lead to imprisonment.

Alicia Gali, a former beauty salon manager at the luxury Le Méridien Al Aqah in Fujairah, claimed she was drugged and raped by three co-workers in June 2008.

The 29-year-old was jailed for eight months on charges of adultery after reporting the assault to UAE authorities – a consequence she claims an Australian consulate official in Dubai should have warned her about.

I checked our government warnings for travellers to the UAE, there is no warning that getting drugged and raped is a crime.

Maybe we need a more general warning. Something like woman are not safe anywhere men have such a lack of control that woman have to wear their own portable tent to avoid provoking them.

Puddings Travel Warning No 2

Travellers should check the local seasons to make sure they go at the right time.  You don't want to go in the wet season, or the dry season unless you can take a lot of luggage.  The eye burrowing worm season is as bad as it sounds, best avoided unless you have urgent business in eye burrowing worm territory.  But most importantly avoid any place that has a fighting season whatever the season.

In a related story, Salwa Al-Mutairi, a "female political activist and former parliamentary candidate" in Kuwait has come up with a brilliant plan to deal with the insidious danger of Arab men succumbing to temptation.  Apparently the poor fellows can't help themselves, so what to do?  She thinks that they should be able to buy themselves a sex slave.  I told you it was a brilliant plan. Problem solved!

Link to a story from "Front Page Magazine" on al-Mutairi's plan. Yes, I know it's a raving right-wing propaganda outlet, but it does have some further information and links...

Those people are sick aren't they, buying sex slaves.
Why can't they just take turns in the sex slave role with their partners, like normal people?

Pudding's Travel Warning No 3

This warning is directed primarily to Sheep and Bovine readers.

We have received reports of cruel treatment of Australian sheep attending religious festivals in Kuwait.
Attendees of the festival have been bound with with wire and squeezed into car boots with other quadruped attendees of the festival.
Travellers have been promised access to paradise, but this claim has not been substantiated.  What can be verified is all abducted travellers have had their throats cut in a brutal manner.
For the present we recommend all Sheep and cattle avoid travelling to Kuwait unless they have urgent business that can't be postponed.
An education program to improve the treatment of travellers is under way, we are confident when this is complete travel to Kuwait will be rife for quadrupeds.
