Meaning Systems

I recently heard a lecture presented by David Sloan Wilson regarding meaning systems. In the very beginning of his presentation he makes mention to a Theologian named John F. Haught who wrote a comparison of scientist being like Ants on a goldfish bowl. The speaker, Wilson then goes on to characterize the ants as rational thinkers and thus having a "Meaning System", base on rational facts, The goldfish conversely was looked at as the irrational believers, those whose "meaning systems" are not cemented in facts. I was hoping that someone here could help me find more information and a deeper analysis of the ant/goldfish metaphor. I would specifically like links to talks or passages written or presented by Haught.

Probably. There have been 16 views one was me, so lets say 12 people have read it. I'm not a great follower of philosophy I tend to get fed up with the 'lint examination' process   I suggest we wait till you get to your 50 and then ask Whitney to move the thread into philosophy.
