I believe it is well appreciated in the UK and not the most well known musical. The people that are aware of it seem to love it as much as I do.

Hawkwind were a really odd bunch of drug addled musicians. Their early music is very LSD influenced. You may know Lemmy from Motorhead? He was in the lineup at one time.

Hawkwind was the favourite band of Neil from the Young Ones, I'm not sure if that can be considered as a good sign though.
