QuoteZachary Moore, the Executive Director for Fellowship of Freethought Dallas, was invited by a local church to speak about his beliefs to a Sunday School class.

Regardless of motive, Zach was glad to take them up on it:

I was invited by Heath Hill to speak with him during the Sunday School class he teaches at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall, Texas.

What’s really surprising to me is that Hill owns the advertising company whose ‘I Still Love You â€" God” truck followed Fort Worth buses carrying the “Good Without God” ads a couple months ago:

See the link for the video of his visit...not what most would expect.

Yay for tolerance  :yay: it exists in some places and in some people; even in TEXAS!

However, I still disagree with the decision for the religious ad truck to follow the atheist ad bus...regardless of the intent it had the appearance of being intolerant of the idea that atheists can be good.

what does that have to do with what I posted?

It's a long one...I'm not sure, but the page says he visited a Sunday school, yet the youth leader asks what the Atheist does on Saturdays?  Maybe I misunderstood.

I think he asked that question to get Zach to paint a picture of what the average atheist family does in their free time; to which the basic reply was the same thing everyone else does.  The film was taken while Zach was visiting the church's Sunday school program.

I still need to catch the second half of the film...it is long.  Since I know Zach I didn't have to watch the whole thing before posting to make sure he didn't say something that wouldn't fit with my description in the OP  :P

I just finished watching the whole thing. I would have added a lot to his responses, but he did a pretty good job, as this was, after all, a conversation with Christians -- Christians who were/are mostly, I assume, ignorant of atheism.

I thought that was actually pretty hilarious move on Hill's part. Sounds like something I would do...only the other way around (i.e. follow around a religious bus with an atheist truck). Gotta give good humor credit where credit is due, ya know. Seriously, if I saw a bus with an atheist ad on it being followed around by a truck with a religious reply...I would probably crash my Jeep into a ditch from laughing so hard.

That's one of the best interviews I've ever seen. The message was clear and honest, the moderator was fairly open and the questions remained, mostly, very respectful. I wish more dialog between atheists and theists worked that well.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

Heretical Rants

My mother actually TAUGHT sunday school, and she was an atheist at the time she did it.

I can remember making little Noah's arcs in one of her classes and wondering what would happen if I stuck the paperclip from one of them into an electrical socket ( I was three years old at the time; don't judge :P )

Presumably you didn't try it, hence your world view
If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.

Asmodean

Quote from: "Heretical Rants"I can remember making little Noah's arcs in one of her classes and wondering what would happen if I stuck the paperclip from one of them into an electrical socket ( I was three years old at the time; don't judge :P ), there was a tiny evil scientist called Asmodean the Tiny Evil Scientist, getting bored in his dark corner. He was fascinated with all things electrical to the point of obsession. And so, that evening, tiny Asmodean was studying a burned out light bulb he found in the trash. It had these tiny spokes, on which a spiral rested. Asmodean the Tiny Evil Scientist then had an epiphany: It was that spiral that made the light bulb shine. And so, in light of his newfound truth, Asmodean the Tiny Evil Scientist decided to create a light bulb of his own - a BETTER one. Imagine, a tiny spiral making all that light! How much light would Asmodean's millimeter thick copper wire wrapped around a pencil make..! It would be GLORIOUS!

Thus, Asmodean the Tiny Evil Scientist got to his workshop and, in bouts of maniacal laughter, The DEATHBULB was starting to form. No sooner thought than done. The great prototype was finished. Asmodean the Tiny Evil Scientist only needed one thing: to find out if it worked...

...You know the ending by now, do you not?  :D

Did you blow a fuse?

When I was young I wrapped some fuse wire from the Nuetral and Phase terminals of the adapter to my spacey game machine. It was a blast.

...And then there was darkness.

Yes, I blew the fuse and got me a nasty burn... And lost whatever respect I had for electricity. Since then, I tend to fix electric equipment with the plug in the socket and the power switch in "on" position... How would I know whether I'm doing things right underway otherwise?!  :D

Burnt and in darkness, ouch.

Surely you weren't holding the DEATHBULB in your hand at the time you turned it on. You are very "brave".
