Quote from: "gsaint"why are some of you so defensive? if you were not offend by my questions then you need not reply. If I have offend most of you with my line of questioning then I apologize.

I don't think you've offended anybody. Trust me, you'll know when we're offended. Addressing guff with scorn is not a sign of offence.
There is no more formidable or insuperable barrier to knowledge than the certainty you already possess it.

Note that while I don't think anyone was offended this is an open forum and if you do offend someone expect them to reply to tell you why what you said was offensive.

If you did offend someone wouldn't you want to know why so you could ask in a more understanding manner in the future?

Quote from: "Whitney"Generally, there is no purpose.
Biologically, the 'purpose' of life is to survive.
Personally, the 'purpose' of life is to enjoy it.

so why do you still want to live?

Einstein - You can talk about the ethical foundation of science, but you can't talk about the scientific foundation of ethics

C.S. Lewis

If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning. If there were no light in the universe, thus no creatures

If we are simply a product of chaos and chance, there is no value in her being, so her life is meaningless, and if there is no logical purpose for her existence why wouldn't she end her life :bananacolor: ?

P1: Life is a product of chaos and chance.
C1: Therefore, there is no value in her being.
P2: If there is no value in her being, then life is meaningless.
P3: There is no logical purpose for her existence.
C2: Therefore, there's no reason why she shouldn't end her life.

I think I did that right. Anyways, that's a very poor argument.

That's a demeaning remark intended to incite emotion, is it not?

It may be shallow logic at first glance, but you haven't made any claims to how it's a poor argument, so its the only logic we can assume

P1: Life is a product of chaos and chance.
I have no disputes with this premise.

C1: Therefore, there is no value in her being.
How do you draw there there's no value just because she's ultimately a product of chaos and chance?

P2: If there is no value in her being, then life is meaningless.
How do you draw there if there's no value in her being, then life is meaningless?

P3: There is no logical purpose for her existence.
I'm not sure what "a logical purpose for her existence" means. Do you mean an ultimate purpose?

C2: Therefore, there's no reason why she shouldn't end her life.
Even assuming that all other premises and conclusions are true, I still don't see how this is a valid conclusion to draw.

I never implied you wanted to, all I merely asked, if life is meaningless, why live?
