Read a tiny little article in the local paper about two people being shot at Virginia Tech..?

Any one who can elaborate and/or provide some good links to the story, so Asmo the Lazyass won't have to roam the Interwebs in search for it?

Wait, what? How is Virginia Tech full of rich kids? That would be University of Virginia, definitely not Virginia Tech.

I'm a student at Virginia Tech right now and what happened was that a police officer was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop on campus. The guy who got stopped wasn't the person who shot him, but rather someone else came up to the officer and did it, then fled to another parking lot. There was a second deceased person found in another parking lot, but many sources believe that the second dead person is actually the shooter. The entire campus went on lockdown today from like 12:30 to 4:00 and a SWAT team searched buildings that people had supposedly heard gunshots in or around. I was actually sleeping when my roommate woke up me and told me about it. There actually weren't any classes today since today is "reading day," which is the day before finals week that is meant for studying.

People were escorted into Torgersen Hall for protection where there were police officers armed with M4s:

When I was there about 20 years ago (visiting my Brother who lived in Blacksburg) the Hokies had won the national league (or whatever it is) and the place was full of rich kids. Might have changed a bit since then. I guess you'd have been in nappies (diapers), Godless!

Certainly sounds like it's gone downhill!

I guess, but I feel like the only reason we're in national/international news is because of news filtering, since Virginia Tech is the location of the worst U.S. school shooting. Shootings happen way more often around schools like Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) since it's in Richmond, but it's never in the news.

Indeed. Them journalists tend to jump on anything that can somehow be tied to a larger story. The one I've read was very vague. so I wanted to check it out a bit more... See what the news really was about.

A few updates to this story:

The police officer who was shot and killed is Deriek Crouse of the patrol unit in the Virginia Tech Police Department. He's been succeeded by his wife, his mother, and five children.

A candlelight vigil was held yesterday at 6:30 PM on campus in honor of Officer Crouse:

It has been confirmed that the second deceased person is in fact the shooter. He has been identified as 22 year old Ross Ashley, a student from Radford University which is about 30-40 minutes away from Virginia Tech. The day prior to the shooting, he had stolen a Mercedes SUV from a dealership at gunpoint. His motives for shooting Officer Crouse is still unknown.

There has been absolutly nothing about this on the UK broadcast media. They are completly focused on the financial issues of the European Union.

I appreciate you following up on this story, Godless. Thank you. It is sad that there are so many to miss the dead policeman, even though death or serious injury is always a possibility in that line of work.

Tank: So, is Europe going under or what..? All they talk about here right now is our local terrorist and his insanity or lack thereof, cheating in Russian elections and something about an airplane vs. a school somewhere where it's warm.

So apparently the Westboro Baptist Church is going to picket Officer Crouse's funeral tomorrow. Do these assholes ever give it a rest? Hopefully they won't be allowed on campus.

Apparently the WBC didn't show up yesterday. But nonetheless 30 cadets from Virginia Military Institute were there to block the WBC from sight if they would've come. The Patriot Guard was also there.
