Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself and give a little background information. I am a 20 years old college student majoring in Business Admin. (might specialize in Finance, not sure yet). Although I was raised in a bible belt my parents were never really religious (they were the "only-show-up-to-church-twice-a-year-for-Christmas-and-Easter" type folk lol). I spent a lot of my childhood reading books, I loved reading about outer space, space ships, dinosaurs, the big bang etc. As I grew up I realized what I was reading in my geeky science books never corralated with what I was taught in church and by my community. I also discovered that I never really did beleive in god (I only liked the hypatheticol idea of god... who wouldnt want an all loving, all knowing care bear in the sky that listens to your every concern, rights the wrongs of the world and loves everyone ? haha). Anyway, I am really happy I found this forum and I am excited to interact with you guys on here :)

If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.

That would be me, I'm afraid. The very idea makes me want to puke. If there has to be all this lovey-dovey bullshit, I'd prefer a tarantula. Tarantulas are our friends and they are very moral arachnids. Good looking too but not good to eat so be careful.
Ciao,

I have to ditto that one.  The Care Bear scenerio sounds too much like childhood, and I hated childhood.

Welcome -- love your screenname.

thanks ! nice to meet ya :) One of the sayings I grew up with living in the bible belt was "no god, no peace. know god, know peace" so I came up with my screen name "no god, know peace" to counteract it :P

Fair enough. I used to the care bear scenario to demonstrate that although the concept of "god" sounds good on paper; it really is silly when you try to apply it to reality haha :D nice to meet you BooksCatsEtc :)

Hi ngkp and welcome. (That seems a bit presumptious as I've only been here about 12 hours longer than you have!)

I didn't even know Canada had a bible belt - or maybe a whole load of them, given the size of the country? What's the story there? For some reason I imagine it's mostly in the Prairies, but I can't justify that except on the basis that there's probably not a lot else to do there on a Sunday.  :)

And you ngkp. You have fallen in with a nest of total loons. I haven't had this much fun in years. Please add to the mayhem.  The more the merrier. ;)
Having fun is the ultimate moral act.
