I know. I think that was the one line that stuck out like a saw thumb. She is so confident in her delusional world view that she considers herself a mind reader!

For some reason I don't find that as distressing as someone who doesn't consider themselves a mind reader, and yet tells everyone with all the confidence in the world what other people are thinking. With this girl, you already know that something's a bit wrong and so treat her with some distance, but with those 'mind readers' of my example, you aren't as careful when listening to them.

Either mind reading or an assumption of facts so unshakeable that reality will be twisted in any way to support it.  Now that's something scary.

Aye. The person has created an unfalsiable scenario; no matter how one answers the questions, they will be wrong. This kind of closed logic is dangerous. If you say you're living a happy, fulfilling life without their god, then it's superficial and you need their god. If you're not happy or fulfilled, then you need their god. There is likely no way to have a reasonable conversation with this person about happiness.

QuoteSure you said rude things... but I don't care the love of God is perfected me.

Apparently, grammar is immune to God's perfecting abilities.  ::)
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

I am a Christian and from my perspective there are a couple of things I would say about the topic expressed in the video.

The bible says that no one knows when Jesus is coming back. No one except God the Father. The only reason some Christians say that it will be soon is because there are some signs that are supposed to take place before the end and since we are seeing some of these things then it could happen any day now. If the bible is true then He may be coming soon, but we really don't know for sure.

I think I also noticed a reply that said something about as Christians we do not need to argue our faith, but simply tell people to repent. This is not true. The bible says that we are to be able to defend what we say in an intelligible manner to those who believe differently. (1 Peter 3:15 for example.) The Apostle Paul gave reasons and evidence for people to believe. You do not have to check your brains at the door of the church.

Religious groups have been seeing the "signs" of the impending end of the world for thousands of years. "The Pursuit of the Millenium" by Norman Cohn is a good historical analysis of this; there is nothing unique about thinking the end is nigh.

Prophecies are always based on riddles and vague language, which are always very open to interpretation, much like the sort of language used in horoscopes.

There already is an expectation that it will become true so it's interpretated in a way that serves beliefs. For instance, if you take the same horoscope for just one sun sign and give to plenty of people born during different months of the year, most will identify with something and take that horoscope to be meaningful, if they believe in astrology. Remove the expectation by not making which horoscopes are for which sun sign clear. Very good astrologers will get practically everyone identifying themselves with practically every horoscope.

Not to mention there are self-fulfilling prophecies, where people actively try to make the prophecies come true, based on something that was written a long time ago.

I admit I haven't really read his prophecies in greater detail, but I'm guessing beforehand that it's based much more on riddles than on generalization.

Reading them in greater detail will only result in them being less accurate, you must read them in less detail. They are four lines each (quatrains), but most "predictions" don't match all four lines, so they just ignore the other ones.

I was joking, because like Davin said, he is as vauge as any so called prophet.
They are all jokes, really.
