There are no jobs where I live. My life is housework, college, and art.

My crazy goal is to draw comics for a living. :P

Hey Fi, keep at it... My crazy goal is alive and well!

My husband wants to teach about comics for a living! Maybe some day he'll be teaching about yours :)

And Asmodean, he never gor the whole comic concept... In my book, no comic comes anywhere near ye old regular book, preferably a fat one, in terms of entertainment and value for money.

I think they are both enjoyable forms of media. Words are uniquely expressive in an interpretative kind of way, but there's something to be said about the immediacy of images. Personally, I like graphic novels more than traditional comics because I think they combine the best of both worlds. There are some very well written graphic novels out there that I don't think would have the same punch if they were traditional novels.

They can also be a bit more versatile - "Lost Girls" by Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie, for instance, is a graphic novel that attempts to fuse pornography, with a narrative, with allegory, with art. Every page has a lot of layers, in a lot ways, and I think it'd be almost impossible to convey the same sort of things with words alone.

Have you never read VIZ?

Oooooh... I seem to remember having a couple of mags when I was in my teens, but those were like... From around the time I was born, I think.

Though since I don't remember being properly impressed by those, I probably wasn't.

Awesome!  I like comics.  I stopped buying the paper ones because the boxes were about to overrun my condo but electronic ones are becoming ever more prevalent.  In fact, you've triggered me to see what Kindle has to offer in this area.

How far along are you in your development as an artist?  Any interest in sharing some works from your portfolio?

Yeah, webcomics are where I'm hoping to succeed. Easier to get your foot in the door and a hell of a lot more flexibility.

I'm... ahhh... well, I'm on the road to competency. I didn't have any formal training until last September, and self-teaching gets futile at some point. Figure drawing classes are helping though. I might post some stuff here sometime. I think I saw an art thread somewhere.

Best school I know for comic book artists:

The Kubert School: http://www.kubertschool.edu/

Not only is the education top notch, but so too are the networking potential and the power of the credential.  Or so I hear.

I'm a Voice Actor for video games, animation, commercials, etc.
Switched over from an IT job about 5 years ago and am doing pretty good.
www.JoeActor.com has more info if you're so inclined ;-)

Definitely not your average 9-5 job... plus I don't ever recall my IT jobs requiring me to speak with a Nordic accent or impersonate a turkey!

I would love to hear your Nordic Accent. Though I always thought that Danish sounded like Swedish spoken while drunk.  :D
