If I believed there were a god, I'd be praying not to screw this posting thing up -- tech and I don't get along well together.

Anyway, I'm 57, was born and have lived my whole life in California, and I like to joke that when I first read the Bible from cover to cover I started Genesis a Xtian and finished Revelations an atheist.  Of course, it was more involved than that but reading the Bible did convince me I wasn't a Xtian, and several years of spiritual searching after that made it plain that I wasn't any kind of religious and that's why the search was going nowhere.  It seems so obvious when I look back on it now.

My screenname pretty much covers my interests: books and cats, everything else is "etc".  If I managed to do the icon thingy right, it should show a close up of my girl Deirdre.  As for books, I'll read just about anything except romances, Westerns and war stories, I prefer non-fiction to fiction (tho I do love a good detective mystery), and my favorite writing is usually science and nature essays. I was going to name favorite authors, but the list just got too long; if you start at Jane Austen and go thru to E. O. Wilson, that pretty much covers it.

But you'd miss Tim Winton.
There's a cat I like, what's his name.... Timon, ah no he's a meerkat.
Maybe it was a kit kat.

I'm in a huff because you left out Carl Zuckmayer and Émile Zola, but never mind.  Welcome anyway.  ;D

Well, now I've got 2 new names to look up.  Zola I've read, but unfortunately he's not one of my favorites.  I am just not a sophisticate and that's all there is to it.

Hello and welcome to HAF, BooksCatsEtc.

You seem to be getting along fine with the forum software (including using quotes), so carry on!

^ There's at least one member here who despises the rainbow colored dancing banana that we used to have, but I'm not sure about the older blue one. Anyway, it celebrates the advancement of your overcoming at least one technological hurdle.

I hope you enjoy your time reading and posting here.

No you wouldn't.
That's part of this 'nanas insidious nature, it sounds jolly but it's actually evil and it doesn't really dance anyway.

How dare you, sir? That's an imposter and you know it!

I demand you find the real dancing banana that we all knew and loved.

And welcome, BooksCatsEtc. I apologize for tank trying to mislead you with that sad excuse of a dancing colorful banana. As a new member, you deserve better than that.
