Hello,

My name is Roy.  I am from south central Kansas, in the Wichita area.  I have been a non-believer for a number of years now.  Living in Kansas is a tough road for an atheist, so it's been hard for me to actively tell people.  I used to think myself quite the Christian, even going so far as to try to teach Sunday school.  But I knew I couldn't really square the things up that were coming out of my mouth with what I truly thought about the world, so I gave it up.

I'm getting more liberal as I am getting older (44) and recently made the move from Rep. to Dem. although I had been telling myself I was going to do it for quite a while.  I was always afraid that if I made my true lack of belief known, that my kids would suffer in school and society.  Now that they are grown and graduated, I am becoming more public about it.  Oddly enough, although my kids are not religious they both attend a Catholic College!  And I have no problem with it, they offered the best deal, and are surprisingly not pushy about their religion.  My kids love it.

Anyway, hope to be able to contribute here.  Need a place to be able to speak to some of my own ilk.

51yo English atheist here. Always have been an atheist. Mum tried to do the indoctrination thing and really only managed to inoculate me!

I think you will find people here who have walked a similar road to your own, as well as people like me, who have never believed in god (And are not too sure about Santa either...  ) and everything inbetween.

Always nice to be able to utter your opinions freely without being judged before the words even have a chance to leave your mouth - or, in case of the Internet, your fingertips.
