Thanksgiving.  I give thanks to the people in my life for being there for me and maintaining our relationships.

Christmas.  Myself and my cousin are the only atheists in the family.  I still love Christmas, but for different reasons than before.  I love being around family and decorating a tree with lights.  I just don't put up manger scenes or ornaments with crosses and wise men.  I really enjoy the time with family, and aside from going to church when I was a kid and a few manger decorations, Christmas in my family never really did have much Christ in it, anyway, so I don't feel at all put off during the holiday with my family.  I figure the winter solstice holiday was around before Christmas, and so I have more right to it than Christians do.

I'm sorta the same way. First, while working in retail I will celebrate whatever day you tell me I don't have to come in to work! Second I love Thanksgiving for the food. I won't lie. Turkey is my friend. I don't like 4th of July too much. Only because I like outside big shows. I do not like personal fireworks too much. Trauma as a child. I threw a sparkler up in the air with friends and it landed in my hair. Freaked me the hell out. Plus my neighbors would throw Mexican illegal fireworks and almost burned a tree down. I like Halloween (hello. I am a Satanist! It's my day to dress up, usually like a pumpkin, and have a great time) I celebrate Christmas with my mother. She's 77, mentally ill and Catholic. It's just fun for her. And her mind is like that of a child. I won't take the fun of opening presents away from her. I usually go late at night to Naples Island here and walk through the boat houses light up. I am in charge of gift exchanges at work. And that's the extent. I don't exchange gifts with anyone except my chosen name and my mother. I also celebrate my birthday for a whole week! It's the number one holiday for a Satanist. Seriously. Look it up!  

Oh I like Easter, day off and those yummy yellow peeps! I like St Patty's Day...wearing all green. And I love Valentine's Day. It took a while for my fiance to catch on to that one though. They don't have Valentine's day in Egypt. But he writes me a beautiful poem every year and sends me lovely e-cards. I like Memorial Day as well. Since my father was in WWII, it's a military family around here.

Halloween, Christmas and sometimes Thanksgiving and the 4th of July... which is odd as Thanksgiving and the 4th of July are the least religious holidays.

No, though I do have one filling if that counts.

I forget or I never managed to remember, but I think I've had the procedure described here.

I mostly hold a grudge for them mutilating my penis without my consent.

I won't count fillings either. I've only had one. When I had my heart attack I had a V Stent placed in my heart. I was sorta awake till the Benadryl drip kicked in. I only woke up to see the needle on the screen and feeling the 'pop' of the stent ending into my hip bone. I couldn't walk for a few weeks. And I had a bruise the size of a football on my inner thigh. It was like a hematoma formed under the skin. But the stent part was great. I was back at work throwing pallets of wood at Home Depot in about 2 weeks. But I can no longer ride on roller coasters. So it's Disneyland tea pot rides for me!

I broke my left leg and had to have the knee pinned together. My diabetes caused cataracts in the lenses of both eyes so they had to be replaced. It was quite interesting watching one's eyes being taken apart from the inside under a local anesthetic, not anything like as unpleasant as I had expected.

OMFSM Tank - you're a diabetic too?  So far my annual eye-checks have revealed no problems, but blindness is the complication I fear even more than death.

The only operation I ever had was the removal of all four wisdom teeth, but it was a pretty serious one done in hospital under a general anaesthetic. It took me a couple of months to recover.

Yep. Type 2 tablet controlled. Diagnosed in 2005. If I recall you're a type 1 insulin dependent? I'm not keen on the idea of going blind either

No, I'm type 2 as well, but diagnosed 1994, so it's quite advanced now.  I'm on a lot of insulin and Metformin.

Well I suppose we should both count our scientific blessings as we'd both be dead/dying 100 years ago.

I had appendicitis when I was five, but other than that, no major surgeries.
