There are quite a few members who joined yet never posted.  Should I leave them or delete them?  If I should delete them how long should they have been a member without posting before I delete that member...3 months, 6 months, 1 year?

Take a look at http://www.happyatheistforum.com/memberlist.php to see who has posted and who hasn't.

Why do you think people sign up yet don't post...can we encourage more people to post?

Comments/questions/thoughts?

1 year but I'm just posting to reset :)

anyway, thanx for maintaining this site. Are you prepared for the big influx if WWGHA go's down?

Here's a thorough suggestion:

For people with less than 5-10 posts give them 3 months of inactivity(no posting), then send an email to let them know they'll be "deactivated" if they don't post in, say, a month.  If they don't post then delete or deactivate them(if that's possible, so they can keep their handle if they'd like to re-register at some point).

For people with more than 10 but less than 50 give them a reminder at 3 months as well, but give them 2 months to comply.

For people with over 50 posts give them a reminder at 6 months of inactivity, and 3 months to comply.

I have no clue why anyone would sign up but not post at all.  Maybe people forget about the site or their password.
With people that stop posting, well people get bored, or they don't like it, or they swear off the internet cuz it's the devil.

I think a year is fair. Often times people sign up and lurk a bit, then decide it's not for them. Sometimes, people only want to read, but not post. I'm signed up for the BAUT Forum (among seven others), but I've posted maybe an intro. and nothing else. I just don't have the time to actively participate in all the forums I'd like.

But a year should be plenty of time, especially if there is something posted on the forum so that upon sign up, people are aware that their profiles will be deleted after a year if they don't participate.

I'm not in favor of the admins. here having to do a lot of extra work by having to send out extra emails to people at various intervals, depending on how many posts those people have or haven't made. It's already time consuming enough just to try and run the forum as is.

I think so but I'm also trying to help prevent WWGHA from dying.

Laetus, i would vote leave 'em in, unless having too many people mess up the website or something?
Some of them may just be lurking around trying to figure things out, learning maybe, but not just not talkative folks anyway....but that's okay, isn't it?  Probably we all oughta be glad they are not overly talkative like me!!!! Now THAT would mess up the website!!
I say we just set up some kinda buzzer alert by the door in case they try to steal something...

Laetusatheos, if members are signing in to read posts but not contributing, I say leave them be.  If they logged on once and have never returned, axe them.

I hope the majority of WWGHA forum members stay away from this nice little forum.  It's so friendly here, I would hate to see it turn nasty.

I think I'll just leave them there for now and only remove the later if it becomes necessary.

MommaSquid...I doubt the members who are causing it to be nasty would come here and if they did they wouldn't be allowed to do that.  They are starting to be moderated over there as well due to new changes.

If it ever gets nasty here and you need some extra mods to keep things running smoothly, just let me know. I'd be glad to help.
