Also, I appear to have created a monster with the The Science of Aesthetics topic. The debate has gone far beyond me I'm afraid. Philosophical chitter chatter tends to shatter the remnants of my brain. Keep it scientific and logical (not in the philosophical sense of "logic") and I'm totally on board though.

Sigh.

I like the subject and I don't get on with philosophy (intellectual masturbation) at all so I'm quite glad it's not in philosophy.

I was just wondering am I weird to be an athiest but still extremely supertious when it comes to baseball?  Unfortunately I'm a die-hard mariners fan so if I can't count on the guys playing well at least I can try wearing the same hat or socks or not say the wrong thing during the game....yeah not much is working out yet but I'm still incredibly hopeful.

Just do it. I always waited till the night before or the morning of to study, most of the time I would retain enough just from doing the assignments.

For the last few days, I had been helping my wife study for her finals, so I read half of three text books, almost a whole text book, various little things and about 6 hefty ethics papers on war, terrorism and racism Mon and Tue. So my brain is pretty overloaded at the moment.

yeah, you're right. it's always a bad idea to postpone learning and i know that i'll curse myself by tomorrow for not learning earlier...

Yes I do, so I guess I'm kind of a hypocrite by telling you to just do it. But I can tell you that procrastinating has hardly been helpful to me while it did benefit me whenever I had gotten things done as soon as possible.

My son is home from college for a week.  I started off our time together with a declaration that I would like our relationship to be beyond "mother and child" in the hopes that there would be less friction. (You all know where this is going to end, don't you?)
I said that I hoped we could treat each other with the kind of respect we have with our friends, blah, blah, blah...
Food is left out, dirty dishes everywhere, dirty laundry in heaps in the family room.  I let it go and cleaned it up. The regular "mom" would have pointed it out with a lot of disappointment.  
Off to work in my shop (live above it).
Son comes to shop and starts to take apart equipment because he thinks he can make it perform better (Aaaaaargh!!!  Expensive equipment!!!).  I ask him to leave it alone but he persists until I have to raise my voice. Now we revert totally to the friction I was trying to avoid (I did not bring them up and hope to avoid complaining about the "messes" but I don't see how i get past this part where I either live like a pig because he is here or clean up after him as if he is a small child.).
HELP!

Hide his car keys or iPod under the mess, and then just play dumb when he can't find them, he'll soon learn the benefits of tidy behaviour.

Ah! He may but he won't know where his stuff has been hidden, so he'll get really really pissed off. Give it two weeks and he'll be house trained.
