Quote from: "Rastelin"Oh dear. Had a shitty day yesterday. A cat was overrun by a car right outside my house. The animal was still alive, but the lower body and hip section was crushed. The intestine was sticking out. There was only one thing I could do for the animal. I got the axe and made it quick.
Wow, good for you.  Makes my day seem pretty good.  Sorry you had to go through that...

We "know" it as well as we "Know" anything biblical. Which is we have many contradictory, re-re-retranslated, re-re-reinterpreted, books written by biased autherors years after the fact by superstitious bronze age hill people. In other word NO! But I believe he became jelous of god's preferential treatment to the new kids (us).

Hi. I just joined this stream.
The question about Lucifer, for me, fits in the same category of "Why did the Joker challenge Batman". I'm not very interested in the battles of evil vs. good in comics or in the bible. Some literature is interesting, but that is based on the skills of the teller, such as Milton in Paradise Lost.
I don't spend much time trying to think through the explanations for biblical accounts since neither the stories nor their explanations hold much fascination for me.

I am interested in rigorous analyses of current evils, such as the self-destructing terrorists. The terrible blindness and religiously energized madness that drives educated, middle-class individuals to kill others, especially innocent, non-combatant families, along with themselves, and then the communities that consider those zanies martyrs...that's a battle of good vs. evil so complex, so here&now, I am vitally interested in.

A bronze age myth of good and bad angels and a punishing deity? I'll leave that to others.

I've been using my recurring interest in writing poetry, combined with my re-energized free-thinking spirit, to post some verses on other social media apps such as TwitWall. I wrote this one yesterday and am posting it here, along with the poem that I'm using as a model.

 Loss Lieder (Song of Loss) (after Elizabeth Bishop’s One Art)

Losing one’s faith is no disaster;
Though congregations have the intent
To retrieve you to their lord and master.

Lose childhood fears and myths, don’t fluster;
Explaining to believers is time badly spent.
Think clearly: without fear, logic master.

Ritual prayers one must master:
In faith, defense is self-evident:
Scientific proof  has grace, is vaster.

Lose your mother’s faith, at last, or
Stay in childish dreams, repent
For sins not yours is adult disaster.

Reason’s a heaven & hell blaster,
Gives no quarter to mind incontinent:
Intelligence is your oil of castor!

Keeping old fears bodes disaster,
Rote rites and churches you went.
Bronse age myth, that lord and master:
Losing one’s faith is no disaster.

One Art
Elizabeth Bishop (1911-1979)

The art of losing isn’t hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother’s watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses went.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn’t a disaster.

â€"Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan’t have lied. It’s evident
the art of losing’s not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.

Today I learned how to administer subcutaneous fluids into my cat.  Kitty has poor kidney function and the vet recommended fluids to help her feel better.  Since I really hate needles, today was a big achievement.

I didn't even pass out!   :yay:

I just saw a woman driving the wrong direction on the freeway. And by saw I mean looked in the eye at 60 miles an hour. I've never called 911 before this morning. Frankly, I hope to never have to again. Even more than that, I hope that woman is all right. She was heading straight into a rather complicated and busy interchange area. At least it was Sunday morning and not Friday afternoon.

Christ.   :eek2:

You were my greatest mistake, I fell in love with your sin
Your littlest sin.
