Today I am under instructions to be on my very, very, very best behaviour.
It is my grandson's christening.
It's totally cultural and an excuse for a huge booze up afterwards.
My wife and youngest daughter have both told me they will both resort to physical violence should the word 'atheist' leave my mouth today!  :D
We need video of this.  You know, just to make sure you were on your best behavior.   ;)
I actually held him while the vicar splashed him AND DIDN'T SAY A WORD!!!!
I have pictures to prove it to.
If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.

Remember, your inability to grasp science is not a valid argument against it.

I think I'm officially peopled-out. I love being home, but the 13 people under one roof thing is starting to get old.  :(

There's a wedding this weekend which, in Newfoundland, means that almost all of the guests are from out of town and staying in a handful of homes. It wouldn't be so bad, except for the fact that one of the families staying here (whom I only met this weekend) has a toddler the same age as our son and the kid is WILD. I know that most toddler's have their disagreeable moments, but this kid is completely devoid of any discipline or boundaries. It's crazy. Even our son is like "Woah dude, what is your problem?"

So I'm currently hiding out in the basement like a total curmudgeon. >:(

A good friend is on my mind today. He's been through an incredibly rough year so far with family troubles, health issues, and several other issues... and on top of that, tomorrow he has to have a beloved family pet put down.  :'( He and his kids are heartbroken. It's an incredibly rough day for them, knowing that this is their last day with a pet they love. He lives way too far away for me to go and give him a hug, and comfort him and his kids, but that's what I wish I could do.

That's a shame, is she still holding you back?

Well, i guess i just wouldn't be in that situation, because the only person allowed over my house is my girlfriend. I know both my grandmother and i would never want any families staying here, whatever the reason.

that sucks, but it is your house, so you should voice up. I understand being generous and loaning out your space, but 13 people is insane. I mean, come on-- wedding or no wedding. Time for the bronze glove, Juliet.  ;)

It's not my house, it's my in-laws. And we're part of the intruding horde, so we don't really have much say, I'm afraid. :P My husband's parents come from a culture where this is just what you do when people come into town. Newfoundlanders are known for this sort of thing (example: when 9/11 happened, the people in the town of Gander took over 6,000 stranded airline passengers into their homes). I do actually like the sense of community here, I just get a bit grumpy when faced with it in my living space for more than a couple of days. :P I blame my surly french genetics.

I guess i'll never understand that way of thinking.

Well, if you ever end up in Newfoundland and need a place to stay, I know at least a half-dozen households that'd shack you up.  ;)
I will hang in there, today was just a particularly grumpy day.
