Akwo

I've seen commercials for something like "above the influence", where it shows bullshit statistics and what not. It says smoking can kill you right on the pack, isn't that good enough?

Nope.  I want the disclaimer clearly printed on the side of every fucking cigarette in the pack.  Plus it has to be done in non-carcinogenic vegetable ink.  Hah hah.  Like it matters.  And while they are at it they could print the effing tax stamp on each one, too so they could start selling them individually again to us poor bastards who don't want to make a 20 smoke commitment to self-destruction.
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

They should do, in America, what they do in Germany (I don't know about the rest of Europe) They don't print the warning in small letters on the side, but use big ones one the entire back.

(my spelling, grammer, and punctuation suck, I know, but regardless of how much I read they haven't improved much since grade school. It's actually a bit of a family joke.

Here, it says "They won't smoke on their own"

As for the size of the sticker, they do the big ones everywhere in Western Europe as far as I know.

We have loads of those messages: "Smoking kills" "Cigarettes cause an early and painful death" etc.

Quote from: "Akwo"What's been in my mind is the fact that there are anti-smoking ads, but not pro-smoking ads. Pardon my language, but I think this is asinine. There is supposed to be a freedom of press in this country, but I see nothing free about it when stuff like this happens.

Could NOT disagree more.  Right at this minute, I'm hacking up a lung from bronchial asthma (4 day long attack... so far).  I do not want any more smokers in this world.  For what it's worth, I smoked for 14 years before quitting in 1993.  Were it not for the "cool" aspect, under which I labored for those 14 years, I wouldn't have smoked at all.

If people must smoke, fine... I know how wonderful it felt to light up, take a deep drag and savor it.

But I'd give back every cigarette I smoked to just breathe right now.

There is, of course, freedom of speech and freedom of press, but with these rights come certain responsibilities. We must be willing to give up some of these rights in order to protect others sometimes. I don't think it would be right for me to put out a commercial promoting a product to be used in the somewhat popular "choking game" teenagers these days indulge in. Why is it wrong? It is dangerous to their health. Sure it has it's highs, such as lighting up a cigarette does, but it is going to kill conforming minds. It is for the similar reason that you cannot yell "Fire!" in a movie theater. Preserving the right to live should always remain a priority over granting the freedom of speech or press to a selfish soul.

What makes you think the statistics are bullshit? You didn't answer my earlier question BTW.
