Though I admire Roosevelt, that particular aphorism has always seemed to me not only trite but simple-minded and inaccurate. Sounds good, but doesn't bear close examination.

Indeed. There is a difference between fear and situational awareness.

What I really find baffling is how can anybody decide to travel abroad in the current pandemic situation? Countries are closing their borders and some people seem to think, "Hmm...I guess now's an excellent time to go to Bangkok!"

Seriously, a friend of my sister's is all the way in Thailand right now and one of my mother's students has made travel plans to go on a cruise to India.

I seriously think some people don't have two brain cells to call their own.

Dark Lightning

I'm thinking that I'm going to have to go to CostCo this weekend to get some things that I can get elsewhere but for substantially more money. I'll just have to bite the bullet and wait in line. I generally can go there (3.5 miles one way), shop and get back home in 45 minutes. The wife and I went to a local market but the selection and cost were not acceptable. I have to laugh- there was a line at the prepared chicken oven at CostCo yesterday (my son tells me) and one of his fellow employees walked up and grabbed one without realizing that there was a line. He got yelled at, and when he went to put it back, got yelled at more! I know how I'm getting my food, now!  ;D Expecting a long line, I'll be taking a walker that I can sit in. Arthritic feet are making my life miserable. I think that I will enlist the entire family and fan out through the store to get what we need. This whole scenario is just so stupid that it defies belief. >:( It reminds me of the SARS "epidemic" where only 800 people died.
