When the alien invasion does indeed happen, if everyone would just go out into the streets & inexpertly play the flute, they'll just go. -@UncleDynamite

I know it's a bit cliche to quote Ghandi, but I came across this one today: "Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position."

I like it
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

It seems to me a fundamental dishonesty and a fundamental treachery to intellectual integrity to hold a belief because you think it's useful and not because you think it's true - Bertrand Russell

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence - Some bloke who gave theists a get out.

Also, the quote is often used as a credible retort, well actually I disagree with the quote and do not respect it's ultimate authority. So eff off, whoever said it.

I think it's true tho -- just because we don't have evidence for something yet doesn't mean we won't discover it someday.  Just because theists can make use of it doesn't changes that, and besides, they're still on the hook to provide evidence for any claims they make.  Possible future evidence for claims they make about their god today are no more meaningful than those I make for the invisible dragon in my garage.  And there will be evidence some day for my dragon, I know it in my heart!

It is true though.

The reason stuff doesn't have evidence to support it is because it doesn't exist. If it did it would. Excluding  Exoplanets.
