The Magic Pudding

We're thinking it's people's fault, they can be very annoying.

Just quoted so it does not get edited out, which JBS does much more often than I personally find comfortable.  :)

i've actually mistakenly edited a few...not sure how to put them back either??? any idea???
You can't recover them easily. One can attempt to google part of the post and it may have been cached, in which case you can copy pasta it back in. I have done that in the past when it warranted the effort.

Huh. I never thought of that before. Creative.

Asmodean

Upbringing: Several homes. Generally boring. Few friends worth the title. Was generally left to my own devices. Found out early that  niceness never got me anywhere. The longest time I've regretted a decision I've made is... Minutes, I guess. Spent some time being a relatively stereotypical emo kid, complete with cutting, one-eyed hairdos and semi-sucky post-punk music. My tendency to overanalyse things started at about the age of sixteen. My sense of humor has always been very limited. Was always good at school and far less good at life, until I started approaching life differently to what I did before.

Why I find it alright to classify myself a sociopath, despite what my shrink says..? Well, the profile semi-fits. I can expand more later. Have to go do some work shortly. As an example, I care (in the broad meaning of the word) about as well as a defined sociopath would, with the exception of my inner circles, who can count on my loyalty and friendship in exchange for their. Always.

Please be more specific in your questions. Blankets are not easy to answer well.

This is more a general question than a part of the Asmodean dissection which I find a bit odd.
Emos, I thought they had strong feelings and they had a bleak world view because the world doesn't measure up to what it should be.
Whereas sociopaths are lacking in feelings, at least normal ones.  I've probably got it all wrong, but is that a usual progression, from Emo to sociopath?

terranus

Quotebut is that a usual progression, from Emo to sociopath?

Not that I'm aware of. The 2 are usually regarded as near opposites. But perhaps that type of progression results from a sudden influx of knowledge which in turn led to a negative reaction to a person's current state.

I don't see sociopath.  Maybe partially antisocial but not sociopath.
Profile of a sociopath: http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html
QuoteGlibness and Superficial Charm

Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."

Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

Incapacity for Love

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.

Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.

Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.

Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.

Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.

Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.

I have several immediate family members officially diagnosed at sociopaths (hence why I've studied deviant psychology, to understand my family), I've dealt with them for my entire life and in conversing with asmodean I just don't get that vibe from him.

The question for me though is WHY JBS is obsessed with sociopaths and psychopaths?  That I think might be a better course of study.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. - Douglas Adams

Don't worry Asmodean. You're still my favorite emo/sociopath.
The world's what you create.

I think I've run into a couple people who exhibit most of those traits; though I'd say that it would be hard for a nonprofessional to pick up on the clues.  For instance, how could you know if someone is a manipulative bitch because they are a sociopath or simply because they were spoiled to death and are just use to being allowed to act that way...even someone I know who seems to fit all of those descriptions I wouldn't feel comfortable publicly labeling a sociopath because I don't know if the motive is lack of caring for anyone but the self or something else...and I'm not a psychiatrist.

However I am never going to try to maintain a friendship again with someone that does this sign:
