QuotePeople of faith do not have a monopoly on virtue as British society was now "more diverse and secular", the Queen told the Church of England today in an address to its governing body.

Speaking at Church House, central London, she told members of General Synod that believers and atheists were equally able to contribute to the prosperity and wellbeing of the country.

The Queen, who is supreme governor of the Church of England, said: "In our more diverse and secular society, the place of religion has come to be a matter of lively discussion. It is rightly acknowledged that people of faith have no monopoly of virtue and that the wellbeing and prosperity of the nation depend on the contribution of individuals and groups of all faiths and none."

Good on ya Queen.
Take that pope!
Royalty that is a long way away and doesn't cost anything is the best sort.
And to actually express a reasonable opinion, well it might be worth keeping her on the coins a while longer.

I approve of this.

Also, the queen pays for herself many times over.

Now you're making me feel guilty about stealing her hat and glove.
But I'm not giving them back.

In that case, God save the queen.

Quite!
QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

Dretlin

Quite honestly - did not see that coming! Still warming to read however.

karadan

I reckon the queen has become agnostic in her old age.

Just a hunch.

I suppose angry mobs have been eroding the divine right to rule for quite a while now.

I can't help but notice that your glove is pointing in a somewhat different direction than Her Majesty's. lol
Certainly don't fault your sense of style though, nor hers. I'm not particularly a Royalist, but I've never really understood the venom directed at the Queen and the royal family by certain elements in British society.  For this though, I say, "Three cheers for the Queen!"

I agree Recusant. What damage have they ever done apart from the odd racist comment by Prince Phillip? :D

I certainly do not envy any of them. The Queen is 84 years old. I don't know how many other people of her age have that kind of itinerary. Most people will have been retired for 20 years by that point.

If any of the nay-sayers try to argue the Royals don't do anything for the UK, they'll only have to look at the world-wide viewing figures for when William gets married next year. The viewership will be comparable to that of the World Cup. I don't see how that kind of world-wide interest can be detrimental to the UK.

Rejoicing over the approval of the queen, a churchgoer. The irony.
