Yep... We are there.  We officially know we are nuts.  It's a chicken thing, bear with me.....
Imagine today, or rather this weekend, we build a 3rd pen for chicks that we are growing out for a friend.  They've outgrown the brooder and are feathered out enough to be outside in the 90* weather we are having.  In this group are also some of hubby's show quality silkies, 6 weeks old, same as the rest but 1/3 the size.  We've gone through great pains to pick out the best of the last 60 we hatched to better our breeding stock.  The pen is built, critters moved in, all is good.

Until 4:30 this afternoon with a loud earsplitting thunderclap that took out power, internet, phone and started a deluge of water.  I was worried that we had lost our modem.  Fast forward to 9:30 pm, the rain had not stopped, we are thinking we totaled somewhere around 7" by then.  We decide we really need to check on the chicks to make sure we haven't lost any to drowning.  Out we go in the pouring rain in rain slickers and a mag light.  Sure enough the chicks were mired down in the mud in the very back corner of the pen under everything making me have to crawl to get to them.  In this pen we set up a wire cage for breaking the broodies when we don't want them setting, there's one girl in there now and it's 2 feet off the ground and semi covered.  Bright idea to put them all in there hit us and we start moving little bundles of wet feathers.  That is until I get to the bottom of the pile where the little silkies had been pushed.  One was ice cold, not good, another dumped her crop when I pulled her out of the muck, the 2 cockerels looked pretty bad and no cheeping from any of the 4.

They are now in my bathroom, in a plastic tub with a brooder light over them, we spent 10 minutes blotting them with towels and warming them up.

Didn't matter that we have 17 more in the incubator set to hatch this weekend.  The modem didn't matter either.  Just hubby's little fuzz balls. And we are soaked to the bone.

Yep.... nuts.

Oh, and the surge protector fried, but not the modem this time, we've had internet for a half hour now  :D   Will probably loose it with the nest line of thunder storms though.....

Ahh, another one of those little scraps of evidence that no one suffers from nuttiness, it's too enjoyable =^_^=

Well, y'all wouldn't be the first to hurt yourself over a few cute chicks.  :D
