Fallen Jedii

Today was the final fucking straw for me. At first, I didn't believe in religion. Now, I'm starting to despise religion.

Yesterday we had this thing in religion class called 'Spiritual Adoption". Basically, you make up a baby, give it a name, and pray for it so that it doesn't getting aborted. I found this hilarious. Instead of praying, how about doing something called...oh yeah, WORK! Get off your fucking knees, get a hammer and screw driver, and rebuild your neighbor's fence that was destroyed in a storm. Actually make a difference in the world.

Let's face it, abortion will probably never be outlawed. It's not that I want it to be made illegal, I actually find it acceptable in SOME circumstances. Seriously though, abortion is never going to banned. So get over it. Stop wasting your breath, and start actually doing something that benefits man kind.

Today, my religion teacher was talking about heaven, and how not everyone will get into it. How the road to heaven is thin. As she was saying this, the kids in my class had a scared look on there face. They were saying stuff like "That's scary man that not everyone get's into heaven..." and crap like that. My friend, who happens to be in the same class as I, turns around and smiles at me. He knows I'm an Atheist, and I guess this was a way of saying "Haha, you're fucked!". I felt like standing up in front of the class and laughing at all of them.

The very fact that my religion teacher said that is the reason why religions are pathetic. "Believe in God or you will suffer!" It's so pathetic. "Let's rule by making people afraid! Then they'll believe anything!" is probably what the pope says. Well, he's doing a damn good job of it. Meanwhile, he's sitting in his nice castle hoarding money while normal people are fighting for their very survival.

As I was leaving class my friend was waiting for me at the door. I started saying basically what I've said in this entire post. He of course said to me "Has anyone ever told you that you have problems?" I could've knocked his teeth out right there, even though he was probably kidding. It just infuriates and saddens me that people have become so pathetic.

"If I'm Catholic by name, then I'm going to heaven. Ok, that's settled. Now I'm going to drink, smoke, and fuck every girl I see in the next 24 hours. Since I'm Catholic I can do whatever I want right?" -Pathetic Catholic

I guess I'll see you in hell then...you ignorant dickhead.

A good vent can be very helpful.

On the abortion issue - it irritates me a lot.  I wish abortions were very rare - safe, legal, and rare.  The only way this can happen is through science based sex education taught at an early age.  And the pro-life peeps hate science based sex ed!  It's like they want the abortions to continue at such a high rate just so they can have their holy war to wage.

They want to push their religion based abstinence only "education" as if it works.

In Japan, science based sex ed is taught as a matter of fact part of health class, starting pretty early as I recall.  The average age Japanese people start having sex is somewhere around age 19.

In America, science based sex ed is not universally taught and when it is it's watered down and shortened to a brief time slot.  Kids can also get optioned out of it by their parents.  Some schools don't even offer it but teach religion based you're-a-dirty-slut-if-you-so-much-as-masturbate sex "education" instead.  Since so much of America's sex ed is Jesus flavored, wouldn't you think kids would abstain from sex more?  Nope.  They are having sex at an average age of 14.5 to 15.9 years of age.

Not only does the Jesus-thinks-you're-a-whore sex "education" not work but girls who go to religious schools are slightly more likely to abort their unintended pregnancy than public school kids are.

They pray to end abortion then flip out and fight you like devils if you try to end unwanted pregnancies and thus most abortions by teaching sex education which includes science and teaches about birth control.

Ah, I had myself a little rant there and now, I feel a little better, too.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. As I said though, he was probably kidding.

He's not an asshole. He can be, we all can, but for the most part he's not. He just does stupid things like this that piss me off every now and then.

Good vent! Your teachers sucks, by the way. Having taught religion myself (at a church), I know that getting preachy doesn't teach anything. Telling people they'll go to hell isn't teaching.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

I truly hope so. But even as a joke, I find it a very nasty one

You hit the nail on the head.

My teacher makes me laugh and infuriates me at the same time. I remember when she was talking about prayer she was like "There is so much energy that is created when people pray in a group". Ha! I felt like I was watching one of those "A Haunting" shows where they go through and cleanse the house of "evil spirits".

Yeah, I know. I'm still mad at him right now. It's funny how religion can make people feel so superior to others, feel so much better about themselves, feel so important.

Reginus

Ah, reminds me of a book I read called Repenting of Religion that really rocked my world.

It basically argues that religion is a gigantic invitation addressed to judgement of others ("you're going to hell"), which is the central obstacle to the love that Jesus preached. Just take a look at how harsh Jesus is to the pharisees!

Fallen Jedii, do you have the option to miss out on this particular class? If so, sounds like you should do something else constructive whilst your colleagues get drilled with idiotic nonsense. If you don't have the option, what sort of trouble would you get into if you simply didn't go? I stopped going to RE class halfway through the year when i was at school. I was 'supposed' to go but the reverend and i always used to argue. He never told anyone i'd stopped going. I guess he was happy i was no longer there to be a disruptive influence. Gave me extra time to work on my biology GCSE.
QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

If I stopped going I'd probably get demerits, and if I continued to not go, I'd probably be expelled. It's a Catholic school, they obviously hold religion in high regard. So they expect their students to hold it in high regard too, even though most if not all of them don't. So I really have no choice but to go.

You see, before I went to high school I had two choices. One, I could go to my local public high school and get no respect from colleges when I graduate. Or, I could go to the Catholic school I'm going to now and virtually get into any college I want. I chose the second obviously. I also believed in the religion at the time, and I didn't expect to stop believing by the end of Freshman year. So it wasn't that hard of decision.

So I guess I could partially blame myself. I chose the school after all. I didn't really have to go.

Ah Catholicism...more shame and guilt than your other average Christian sects.
