DO YOU LIKE STAR TREK?

When the show was first on air my sister would watch it and I would too but i did not care much for it. Then i was watching reruns this summer and i was hook for life. Then I bought season 1 to 7 on dvd. Voyager has some realing interesting topics that really make you think. Like in eps Latent Image, Nothing human, Lineage. That voyager had a woman captain the best thing ever. The 9 main character of voyager were all equally develop and explored. My fav are Bleanna, Tom, Janeway and the Doctor. I just wish they had more then 7 season. Also I would have like to see how they have live on earth, after been on voyager for 7 years. Maybe someday they will do a Voyager Movie.

That being said I enjoy Voyager as well which can get you in an argument with a hard core trekie nerd since it's generaly considered the worst of franchise, I disaree though. I like all of them really though, again a point of contention with hard core trekies is that the original series the least. That's not to say I don't like it, I do just it's at the bottom of that particular list. I even like Enterprise series which sucks because they cancelled it after 4 seasons before they a chance to really deveop they story. You could tell they knew they were getting cancelled that last season because it seemed like the story wash rushed so they could give it closure.

Some of my earliest memories is staying up really late watching reruns of the original with my dad. It's probably what started my enjoyment of Star Trek I treasure those memories they are some of the few I have of him before he passed.

I used to enjoy the next generation. I watched Deep Space Nine just because it was on at the time i came back from work. In hindsight, it was rather boring. I thought Voyager was a good premise and had i been younger, i'd have enjoyed it more. Unfortunately, it aired at the same time i started to read really hard core sci-fi books (Iain M Banks, Kevin McLeod, Richard Morgan, etc) and these stories just made the Star Trek franchise look like a childs story. Reversing the polarity of the di-lithium positronic matrix can only serve to get you out of trouble a finite amount of times before it starts to get very tedious.

Having said that, i am very much looking forward to the new JJ Abrams Star Trek.

Always been kind of a Babylon 5 buff myself because of the unique story telling. (Don’t kill me trekkies).
But all honor to Star Trek that got me hooked on sci fi in the first place. The show will always have a special place in sci fi history.

Star Trek: overall, really great franchise.

TOS: classic - too many cool episodes and  characters to name.

Voyager: good premise, but I didn't care for Captain Gangway.

TNG: watched most of them.  Picard rules.  Doctor rocks.  Data, uh... computes well.  Counselor, uh, why?

Enterprise: need to watch more.  Seemed good.

DS9: Um... it's called Star "Trek"... why are they on a space station?  Star "Orbit"?  Meh.

I watched all of the series. I'll always be partial to Picard. I always thought he had some of the coolest lines: "Make it so" "Fire at will!" and my all-time favorite: "THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!"

Are we talking just Voyager? If so, I did like it, but not as much as any of the other series. A lot of it felt like fanfic and some of it really messed up the Star Trek universe.

Anyone remember what happens when Tom Paris breaks the warp 10 barrier? He gets sick and dies, then he comes back, transforms into a big newt and has crazy alien sex with newt-Janeway. Apparently that's simply what happens when you break the warp 10 barrier; you turn into a newt and have newt sex so the species of warp 10 newts can continue on. It was completely insane.

And let's not forget what happens when the Q have a civil war... a couple of stars blow up. That's it. It's not whole galaxies being ripped apart, it's not the laws of science changing, it's not hot snow falling up; it's just a few novas.

Still, we had a chance to see Borg space which was interesting, not to mention supplying Seven of Nine to what was otherwise a fairly unsexy cast.

Also, Robert Picardo as the Doctor was pretty damned good, especially in "Lifesigns" where he falls in love.

"Distant Origin" wasn't too bad either, hypothesizing that some intelligent, space-faring dinosaurs escaped the Cretaceousâ€"Tertiary extinction event,  created a massive and thriving civilization in the Delta Quadrant, and had forgotten about their roots to Earth instead adopting the doctrine that they had evolved where they eventually settled. It was an interesting, if a bit obvious, illustration of how dogma can hold back truth.

Personally, I prefer Enterprise. Sure, I grew up on TNG, but it always felt like "that show my dad loves". DS9 was great, but Enterprise really grew on me.

I used to love Star Trek, but I can no longer stomach the inane techno-babble.  At best it's a crutch to disguise awful writing; at worst it's a deus ex machina that lets the writers avoid any kind of believable or intelligent plot.  With Firefly and Battlestar Galactica (minus the final season) showing us how sci-fi can really be done, Star Trek has become painful to watch.

That said, I did enjoy DS9 when it was on TV.  It definitely had the most interesting setting of all the series, and tended to use the techno-babble as a plot device with the least frequency.  They didn't have any actors as good as Picard, but that's to be expected.

The techno-babble bits are the best.

Nothing beats seeing Torres and Seven bending over a console discussing tacheon emissions and warp field degredation.

Star Trek TOS was what I grew up with. Loved it and still do, despite ultra cheesy season three and the lack of sets/set decoration due to no mo' money for the series. It was great for its time and sneaked in so much social commentary back then.

TNG is excellent too. Had a hard time getting into the exterior design of the Enterprise D. They should have dropped the Troi character and kept Tasha Yar.

DS-9. Nope. Didn't watch it. Nice theme tune,

Voyager = Seven of Nine. Nothing else matters. Everything else about it was useless, although another nice main title tune.

Enterprise. Love the cast. The show never reached its potential.

The movies: Thumbs Up for the even numbered ones with TOS gang. TNG movies....sort of all blend together except for First Contact. Lousy looking Enterprise, too. Thumbs down for the design folks on that.

Yes, all of them except Enterprise which I only watched one episode and it didn't interest me so never watched again.  The original is still my favorite.  I loved the "making of" that was done a few years ago where they talked about how they came up with "beaming" and that they used salt shakers as the first tri-corders, and of course the invention of the flip phone! (They just thought it would look cool and required a little action.)  

My boyfriend is a huge trekkie, say a line or even play the music and he'll tell you the scene, movie, section of the movie, what was happening, what color the uniforms were and who the extras were that died. (The red shirts, ahhh!)  He didn't know about Shatner Speak until I pointed it out to him though, too funny.

I found some great DVDs online that are set up by topic and have episodes related to it from all of the series.  It was expensive but the best gift I've been able to pull off for him:)

And yes, someone mentioned Q, he is still my absolute favorite!  He and the hologram doctor from voyager hosted a Star Trek themed concert that the Dallas Symphony Orchestra did a couple of years ago.  It was terrific, and interesting the items they had to use to make some of the sounds.

Ah Star Trek, always brings about the most interesting bunch.
