It is infact a franchise, it has a movie, comic books and two games, with another on the way.
I'm a huge Dead Space fan. I even follow the art director on Twitter. Not sure if that would fit with my area of research, though. I think the Silent Hill series would work better. It's so multifaceted: could explore the nature of fear, abnormal psychology, folk tales and lore, narrative structure, interpersonal communication, attachment theory... the list goes on.  :headbang:

The controls are nearly perfect. Think Resident Evil but... without the suck.
The graphics are great, but that's basically unremarkable these days. The lighting, however, is absolutely top-notch. They've won all sorts of awards for the lighting.
The storyline is great. Kinda Doom-ish, but with a sort of Total Recall meets H.P. Lovecraft feeling.
The voice acting is superb. Truly superb.
The monsters are varied in that you don't feel like you're fighting the same ones over and over... if you look closely, they're all slightly different. (The reasons for which becoming apparent as the storyline progresses.)
There are a number of different "modes" to keep things from feeling too repetitive. (Regular 3PS being normal, but also throwing in areas of vacuum, zero gravity, even turret-work.)
There are a number of puzzles that, quite surprisingly, are not as immediately obvious as you are led to believe.
The backstory is rich.
The inventory is not remarkable, but offers a great deal of variation. You can really finish the game using just one gun (I did without even thinking about it) but by mixing it up you can have a lot of fun.
If you're the kind of person who gets easily creeped out, you'll enjoy it. Turn off the lights, crank up the surround sound, and enjoy. The sound engineering is almost as perfect as the lighting.

Turning off the lights won't be a problem! I play in a room with no windows. If you turn off the lights its like a movie theater. Add in my new HDTV and I'm in the game.

Been playing SMT: Devil Survivor & Animal Crossing Wild World

I just recently started SMT: DS properly since I got it during the Packing Time. Gotta say, I like what I've seen so far. I think the Main Character sort of resembles Persona 3's main guy a bit too much but whatever, it's still koo. I really love the whole Idea of summoning Demons from a DS like device. I kind of what that to be real xD;;

In AC:WW I just paid my Mortgage of around 120,000 Bells. Naturally Nook gave me a bigger house in return, so now I gotta pay off 298,000 Bells. Freakin' Nook and his constant Bigger House Thing. Well, at least it actually looks like a House now and not a shed.

Was anyone else NOT scared by Dead Space. The only time i was even tense was when i was being chased by that regenerator.

Not scared exactly, no. At times slightly panicky, but I actually kind of rev myself up for that. I enjoy the feeling, so I try to promote it. Same reason I love the Fatal Frame games. I think what makes it nerve racking is the sound effects: "There's something over there. No, wait, it's back that way. No, shit, it's ... it's right above me!" The whole time you're swinging around trying to find it, and when you finally do it's right in your face. :) I like that.
