What the hell is Satanism all about, anyway? All I get is the usual replies:

Devil worship.
Sinning.
Bribing the Devil.

But what is it all about, and why? Why choose such a religion?

QuoteSatanism is a term that refers to a number of related belief systems. Their commonality is that they all feature the symbolism of Satan or similar figures. Originally, this figure was the one who challenged the religious faith of humans in the Hebrew Bible. Since then, the Abrahamic religions have variously regarded Satan as a rebellious fallen angel or demon that tempts humans to sin or commit evil deeds. Others regard the Biblical Satan as an allegory that represents a crisis of faith, individualism, free will, wisdom and enlightenment.

Modern satanism can in general be categorized under two broad types: Theistic Satanism and Atheistic Satanism. Theistic Satanists venerate Satan as a supernatural deity, whom some consider to be entirely benevolent. In contrast, Atheistic Satanists are atheists and regard Satan as merely symbolic of certain human traits.

This categorization is not necessarily adopted by Satanists themselves, who usually would not specify which type of Satanism they adhere to. Each "type" of Satanist will usually refer to themselves only as a "Satanist".

I must admit, it's kinda interesting. Still, I think it's disingenuous to call any atheist a satanist. An atheist that regards satan as a symbol of human behavior or beliefs is still an atheist.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

I read some of the Satanist bible once. It was interesting. I especially found their commandments, and sins comical. Stupidity is the cardinal sin of Satanism. I at least found that funny.

Thats a Commandment I would endorse.

Knowing only a little bit about LaVey's version, I have to admit, some of the things he says seem to make sense.

I must be one of the biggest cardinal sinners in the world
To those who are overly cautious, everything seems impossible.

LeVayen Satanism is atheistic and revolves around the individual treating himself as a God and indulgence in primal instincts, pleasure relevant to making yourself more animal like again.

Theistic Satanism generally holds there is a 'Satan' who inspires our creativity, our nature to rebel and think for ourselves, and many believe there is a Jehovah who is an enslaver masquerading as an omnipotent God.

Personally I think both are stupid.
