QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

While understandable my first thought is that it isn't his bus and he should simply do his job ... by all means he should be allowed to go home but he should not be paid for doing so.

Looks like the company handled it reasonably well though.

If an atheist bus driver refused to drive a bus with a christian advertisment on it, I imagine he would get short shrift.

It is his job to drive buses, that is his job description, they should not have to make special allowances so as not to challenge his beliefs. When you take a job, you do what you are told. Would a Vegetarian in a supermarket be excused from stacking shelves with meat on them? I hope not, the same should be true here.

If he does not want to drive buses, he is more than welcome to find another job.

I love how the slogan is unmistakably the words of Dawkins. He's the only atheist to put it in those terms and he always leaves that possibility open but with no more probability than the flying teapot.
"In our tenure of this planet, we have accumulated dangerous, evolutionary baggage -- propensities for aggression and ritual, submission to leaders, hostility to outsiders, all of which puts our survival in some doubt. We have also acquired compassion for others, love for our children, a desire to learn from history and experience, and a great, soa

I agree.

Objecting to doing one's job because of religious, dietary, etc reasons is not a valid excuse. But, being told to go to a chapel for Sunday service or being told to eat a turkey sandwich, are not things that I would do whatsoever.

I don't know, at least he is standing up for his beliefs.  I get tired of those religious persons that do everything in opposition of what they walk around saying they believe in.  Like a guy at work that is "super Christian" and ended up filing a workers comp claim for his back and ended up with free surgery when we all know he has a side job working with concrete and it's VERY unlikely he hurt his back at work where he sits on his butt all day.  Hmmm, they end up being the biggest cheats.  At least this guy doesn't want to fake the funk, as they say....however, he has still found a way out of working.  Geeeze

Good for him.

I like this kind of stuff, it generates more publicity for the atheism campaign. Everything that puts it in the news is a wonderful development.

"Or you are abominably wicked;
You are a toad."

And after I had thought of it,
I said, "I will, then, be a toad."

Good for him.
I wouldn't want to sit and have to look at a crucifix, or bible verses, or anything like that all day at my job. I think it sounds like he handled the situation appropriately, as did the company he works for. He's not refusing to drive a bus, he just doesn't want to drive one of the buses with that slogan. And the company is not firing him for it, they're accommodating him, so I'm fine with that situation.

Plus, he gave the slogan some more free publicity, and I'm good with that too.  ;)
