Driving home from work I keep seeing this strange billboard that says "I am second" and has a black and white image of a man (that kinda looks like a hippie jesus drug addict) looking back at me.  WTF, is I am second, I wondered.  While shopping with my husband today we saw another billboard, this one just black with "I am second" written in white.  We saw it again when driving back from dinner and I finally remembered to google the phrase to figure out what the hell it is.

The website itself does not say what it is all about.  It does say that it is a support site for those in need.  What it does not say is that it is a religious site (though you can find that implied through some of the wording).

So, I looked further down the google results and found this:

QuoteIf you live in North Texas, you may have seen billboards with an edgy black and white photo of someone looking straight at you and the slogan "I am second." Which raises, somebody obviously hopes, the question "Who is first?"

The campaign seems to be the product of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, led by the Rev. Tony Evans. It includes some well-known names from entertainment and sports, including
Greg Ellis, Josh Hamilton, Joe Gibbs, Darrell Waltrip, Brian Welch.

Who is first for these folks? Jesus.

While I think the religious have every right to express themselves freely through billboards and other mediums, I think they should be a bit more up front with the purpose of their website once you click on the about information.

QuoteAt least one of those sports stars should have recognized that Rev. Evans has moved himself up a notch. Gale Sayers 1970 autobiography was titled "I Am Third".

God first, others second, and I am third.

^I like this message a lot better.

They've given atheists a rather big opening. Imagine a sign that replies, "We're all first ." and then "God is zero, which has no numerical value."

You're absolutely right, though. This is intentionally misleading.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

I went to the website. clicked on a link and a black athlete (Greg Ellis?) started with, "Sometimes God allows us to be placed in situations where ... " and that's how long it took me to reach the little red "x" on that tab.

'nuff said!
