As many of you know, I live with my girlfriend, who is Taiwanese. During the winter break (which, at our university, is nearly six weeks long) she travels back to Taipei to visit her family. This leaves me alone in a big, old house, with not a lot to do, and also rather lonely and often bored.

So, I ask all of you, what should I do with the next few weeks?

I would spend six weeks buried in books but I'm a nerd.

You could always take up guitar.... or some sort of useful hobbie.

There must be something or things which you enjoy doing that she doesn't. Now is the time to do them. Whether it's going to see movies you like that she doesn't, or plays, or symphony, or taking hikes, or driving around. Anything that you enjoy but that she doesn't really care for. Read books, rent videos. When my wife isn't around, I get to watch all the old campy Vincent Price movies I like. Or I get unlimited time with my beloved camera, completely guilt-free.

You know, a little me time never hurt anyone...it's only 6 weeks.

You could post a lot on the forum  :D

Write a script for a really good film :)

Take up online gaming.

Zarathustra

Get the new GTA IV. I don't even think it's possible to complete in six weeks. (But then again I'm not exactly a hardcore gamer)

You can do some beautifully un-productive time wasting. Get an XBox 360 or a PS3 and do some serious button mashing for instance. OR you can spank the monkey and feel lonely... Works for me  :D

I don't know you well, Curio, so I can't make good suggestions, most likely. I can tell you that if it were me I'd try to balance some great alone time with books and movies and art time with some quality out and about time doing volunteer work or taking a class (school addict here), or hiking. I hope you find some ideas that sound really good to you.

That's weird. The board just let me know that this thread had already been responded to and suggested that I might wish to review my response before posting it.

Because you were making your reply while I posted mine.

Mister Joy

You get a six week winter break... six weeks... well that just isn't fair.

Why don't you go on a trip as well? That's what I'm doing. And there must be plenty of stuff to see and do around Ohio and beyond.

6 weeks hmm Well you can wage war on religion, or plot your hostile world take over, or waste all the free time on a utterly cool game.

I would go for a mix of partying, games, books and devious plots for world dominance.

I would have to agree here. A little bit of Medieval II: Kingdoms to hone my world dominance skills, a few (cases of) beers for courage, and then BAM...

...sorry I was dreaming of my perfect world. It looked a lot like Lennon said. Imagine...that.
