Hello everyone!  May name is Sam, I'm 27 years old and from the DFW area east of Dallas.  I was browsing around last night when I came across this positive community so I figured I'd sign up.

Unfortunately I don't have any real life friends who share my views.  Most are avid Christians while some are not sure yet what they believe.  They all know how I feel and respect my individuality and open mind.  Ever so often a few attempt to persuade my view point but I kindly remind them who I am and that I have never pressed my beliefs on them.  I have the best friends and family, regardless of what we each believe we all love each other and get along great.  The only hardships I have faced while being an open Atheist would be relationships with women.  My last three have failed directly as a result of Jesus.

With that said, I look forward to meeting some new people with similar view points on life  :D

Howdy back, Sam. Welcome to the forum.

I can definitely identify with your situation. Most of my friends and family are Christians. We still hang out with some of my Christian friends. They pretty much avoid the topic altogether, and we just hang out. And that's fine, but there's nobody I can talk to who shares my views. So I'm right there with you.

Glad to have you on the forum.

Howdy Sam.  There seems to be quite a few Texans on this forum.  I found this forum through a Dallas area Free-Thinkers Meetup.com group, so you might want to check that out.

Hi Sam - welcome!

I'm not from Dallas, and I'm not there now... but I did live there for about 10 years.

Hey Sam.  Welcome to the forum.  You're right - there's a bunch of positive people here.

I do agree that religious (or non-religious) differences sure can put a strain on a relationship.  It took me a few tries - but now I am lucky enough to have a fiancee who came from a socialist country.  She makes growing up in such a progressive place sound so sweet.

Hi Sam... welcome!

I know a few folks around the DFW area from a mailing list I'm on and they tell me it's a fairly open-minded, atheist-friendly place... admittedly strange for Texas.  :-)

Glad you found us!

Wow! You can't swing a dead cat in Texas without hitting an atheist anymore!
