Well I was driving my dad (a conservative Christian) to the store so naturally the radio was on a Christian station. During one of the commercials I heard something quite interesting.

They mentioned how everyone used to think the earth was the center of the universe and then how it was found that the sun actually is and the earth actually revolves around the sun (no mention of Galileo, or science, or even the Catholic church whatsoever). Then they went on to relate that story to us selfish sinful humans. They said something like how thinking the earth is the center of the universe is like us thinking we're the most important thing. And then finding that the sun is actually the center of the universe and that the earth revolves around it is like us realizing that we aren't the center of everything and that God is and that we revolve around Him.

I think they got this was from some website but I didn't catch the name of it. I just thought it was funny how they twisted it so much. The Catholic church was who said the earth was the center of the universe. Doesn't that make them the egotistical ones? I think the intent of the whole thing was to remind people who are already Christians to not be selfish and give it all to God rather than trying to evangelize 'non-believers', but I still found this interesting.

Yeah, you think they'd have chosen a better example to make their point.

God is the sun? Or the center of the galaxy, that supermassive black hole?

Hehe... it's just another example of how maddeningly confused they are. "Evolution is real... but it's also god... and um Jesus was the dinosaurs, but they're going to rise again like in Jurassic Park!"
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

Ironic considering their are still Christian fundies out there who do think the Earth is the centre of the universe, that it's flat and so on. Atheists never seem to pertain to this view, strangely; you'd think tey would, what with being Godless and all  . And, like creationists, they also claim to be scientifically grounded (awww bless). Go on this site and click on 'Why a Flat Earth?' if you fancy a laugh:

My favourite is Argument Four - Paradoxes associated with an inconsistent down direction. :D  It cracks me up.

Mister Joy bring sup another important topic: when will American and the UK come together and decide, once and for all, how center/centre will be spelled!? Color/Colour?

If they figure it out, Willravel, make sure somebody sends notice to the Canadians.  I've skated at many an "Ice Centre".  Sometimes, this was to "practise"!
