If you type in "happy atheist"  happyatheistforum.com is listed on the first page of google results (last of the first page results, but still first page is good).  Maybe that will help us get more members.

edit:  I just did a search for "atheist forum"  the site is on the second page results of that search term.

I hope that in time thie site will list at the top for "happy atheist" and somewhere on the first page for "atheist forum" (Now I really need to remember to get the meta tags and sitemap done for this new site so I don't get droped from the google results)

Yeah, it's a shame this forum isn't more popular, but hopefully this progress on Google will help.

Cool. Congrats.  I don't know how you did it - my site doesn't even show up on that search.

the way that it works is whenever you click on a link from google it makes that link stronger. google doent track the site, it tracks the clicks to the site. Soooo that being said if you really want to make it strong, instead of entering this site from your favorites or desktop link or however anyone does it, go in through the google look up. If you want to take it to the next level you can even type happy atheist or whatever it was that was being typed  into the search even then before clicking this link save that page as your home page so your forced to click it that, giving it power each time, without going through tomany extra steps.

I'm not sure what I did either, it just started showing up.  Hmm...I used webCEO (free version) to pick good keywords and submit to multiple search engines, placed the site on "Stumble!," exhanged links with a few places (including atheist top sites or whatever it is in my sig), put a link to this site on   my myspace, created a site map according to google's specifications as well as a txt version and submitted it to them....that's about it, nothing really special.

Whatever you are doing, according to Link Popularity Check (also free) it is working pretty well for AlltheWeb it returned 980 hits for your site from that engine (mine is 131).  You do have some presence on google, it returns 11 hits (mine is 29) so maybe you just need to update keywords/sitemaps?  I don't know, I'm certainly not an expert at any of this being top on google was just dumb luck.

Maybe so, I haven't updated my sitemap although that's because I plan on adding more content to my site soon...well, at least after the semester ends anyway.
