The Black Jester

This is fascinating to me.  Hopefully it will be to someone else as well.  I love "ScienceDaily."

QuoteBiologists at UC San Diego have discovered a chemical that offers a completely new and promising direction for the development of drugs to treat metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes -- a major public health concern in the United States due to the current obesity epidemic.

Icarus

Tinkering with our circadean clock is scary. On the other hand this kind of discovery may eventually be able to fix our personal clocks so that we are not wiped out by jet lag. It may also repair many biologicals that suffer from diabetes and other maladies.. A salute to those brilliant lab folks.

Crow

I wish I could write advanced Japanese. I could then find the link (though wouldn't be much help as it would still be in Japanese) to the studies the Japanese have been doing linking particular cells in muscles to type 2 diabetes, it's an extensive study on how to prevent it from occurring in those at risk and minimise the impact through certain exercises for those suffering, it also happened to highlight the primary cause of obesity in western culture.

It appears to me (whether rightly or wrongly) that direct arguments against Christianity and theism produce hardly any effect on the public; and freedom of thought is best promoted by the gradual illumination of men's minds which follows from the advance of science - Charles Darwin

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the object of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a god, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism. - Albert Einstein

Religion is a by product of fear. For much of human history, it may have been a necessary evil, but why was it more evil than necessary? Isn't killing people in the name of God a pretty good definition of insanity. - Arther C. Clarke

Faith means not wanting to know what is true. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Soory to hear that, Mark.  Are you type 1 or 2?
Type 2. Its why I lost my legs.
I remember you telling us about that. I take much more care of my feet now as a result of your experiences!
