I should say that I found this on facebook and I don't know it's provenance, but taken at face value it does reveal a long term trend in the reduction of people stating they are Christian and an increase of stated atheism.

If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.

Would be interesting to know how this attributes to generations of Australians rather than globalisation.

QuoteHinduism is the fastest growing religion, but most people still call themselves Christian, although the figure has dropped from 64 per cent in 2006 to 61 per cent last year.

According to the census, the proportion of people who reported no religious affiliation has increased from 18.7 per cent in the 2006 census to 22.3 per cent last year.

That group has now eclipsed Anglicans (17.1 per cent), while just over a quarter of the population identify themselves as Catholic.

This quote is from a reliable source reporting on the most recent census, your table has the same 22.3% figure shown in the census.  There was a push by an Atheist organisation to encourage Jedis to identify as no religion.

I'm not sure how globalisation effects this as such but like Europe immigrants tend to be more religious than long time residents.

Being a person that has more than the average share of Aussie friends around in my religious circle, I would say that this is spot-on.  They tell me that being Christian in Australia is like being atheist in Texas...more out of the ordinary.

All of my favorite Australians are heathens. (I lump Pudding in that group, but I also have a darling cousin-in-law and her hilarious family that fall under the headings of "My Favorite Australians.")

Interesting. Though they still have a few of their religious wackos. When I was studying over there many years ago, I dated a girl who's brother was an evangelical, to the point that he believed Jesus was coming back in the next few years. Scared me wondering if she would end up finding religion thanks to him. Luckily, we didn't stay together long enough to find out

Most Chinese are atheist aren't they?
Certainly by world standards, the world is less than 60% Christian

If this graph is accurate then the Aussies are slowly but steadily making their way out of the religious dark ages.  I applaud them for that.  If only Americans could do the same then maybe I could take some pride in this rapidly declining country again.  I'm so tired of my country being a freakshow of ignorant, superstitious and intolerant whackos who loudly proclaim the glory of their god while simultaneously chowing down on their second helping of deep-fried butter.

I'm waiting for the movie of my life to be made.  It should cost about $7.23 and that includes the budget for special effects.

Yeah, it's interesting. Most Chinese are indeed atheists, but a lot of Koreans and even some Japanese are christian.

it's soooo odd....

I want more atheists in general.. >___>;;
I stated once before, my gf's dad is an atheist scientist. My gf's mom is a deluded christian.. Like--she is WEIRD. IT IS STRANGE TO SEE RELIGIOUS TXT IN CHINESE :(

But luckily for me, My mimi is non religious, or else i would not marry her. Nooo way.
