Father of 6 discovers he's a woman

I think this forum needs a "just plain weird" category.  I get being intersexed, what I don't get is someone who's impregnanted another 6 times being classed as female just because he has a pair of, apparently non-working, ovaries.  Wouldn't a fully working male reproductive system trump that?

It's cool that her partner stayed with her!

I would expect the gender classification of genetics and the person's gender comfort zone. It appears in this case the subject always felt more feminine than masculine. But given they had a visible functional penis and testicles and invisible dysfunctional ovaries and womb they were classified as overtly male.

I think so too, but that seems to be the case as often as not even with the more conventional sex-changes.  If you love somebody and have spent a long time with them, a change of genitalia might seem fairly minor.

I watched a documentary on this once, where one of the people interviewed was a woman whose female partner of some 15 years transitioned to male.  She said she thought it would be difficult to get used to, esp. as she'd always thought of herself as 100% lesbian, but it was actually quite easy since despite all the surface changes John was definitely still the same person Jane was.  And as a bonus, they could now get legally married.

I get that, it's just seems weird that so many people are using these unfunctional ovaries to state he was really female all along -- that's inaccurate.  I know it's a small issue and has more to do with emotional reaction than anything else, it just bothers me the way a clock that's a few minutes off does.

True. :) There are just too many horror stories about the fall-out that comes on trans-gendered/trans-sexed people. Losing jobs, family members, sense of community, etc. It's nice to see what appears to be a happy ending.

Well, the article could've mentioned if all his children were daughters. A genetic female (XX) can only have daughters, and six would be really unlikely, though not impossible, it would make you question.

Like BCE, I am a little confused about the classification of someone who is able to father children being classified as a woman due to some apparently defunct organs, but then again I am happy enough to call her a woman if she considers herself a woman for any reason (meaning, whether she was born with female sex organs or not.)
