The new French prime minister's name sounds like a slang word for penis in Arabic.

I say send him to negotiate peace between the Jews and Muslims.  They will start laughing so much that they won't be able to hate each other anymore.

LOL

How unfortunate for him. I don't even speak Arabic and I'm almost chuckling when I read his name,

There was a car called Pinto (which means penis) released here in Brazil a while back...needless to say that it didn't sell very well and they had to change the name.

There is a story that Rolls Royce had to change the name of the Silver Mist in Germany.  Mist is German for 'dung'.

And the Toyota MR2 in France sounds similarly to merde when pronounced.

Hey, so it does!  I never thought of that.

If Memory serves me right THE Chevy Nova meant something like it doesn;t run in Mexican Spanish.
It appears to me (whether rightly or wrongly) that direct arguments against Christianity and theism produce hardly any effect on the public; and freedom of thought is best promoted by the gradual illumination of men's minds which follows from the advance of science - Charles Darwin

I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the object of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a god, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotism. - Albert Einstein

Religion is a by product of fear. For much of human history, it may have been a necessary evil, but why was it more evil than necessary? Isn't killing people in the name of God a pretty good definition of insanity. - Arther C. Clarke

Faith means not wanting to know what is true. - Friedrich Nietzsche

Of course!  No va - doesn't go.  Excellent!

Probably referring to the dialect.  The Spanish they speak in Mexico is a bit different than, for example, the Spanish they speak Spain, or in Cuba.  Not so much that Spanish speakers from different regions can't understand each other, but kind of like the difference between US English and British English.  We have different slang, colloquialisms, et cetera.

I understand...but it's not even a slang or colloquialism in Spanish or "Mexican"...it's just one English word that incorporates two Spanish words that in context of being the name of a car makes one giggle.  Having grown up speaking Spanish and being surrounded by the language, I have never heard anyone use "no va" as a slang or colloquialism except in referring to THE car.

It always makes me cringe when a person asks another if they speak "Mexican".  It's like me asking a Brit if he/she speaks British.

:)  I get it though.

Quebec people are known to speak "Québécois" as opposed to french. And french people in Nova Scotia are known to speak "Acadian" along the same vein. ibm might have better input on how appropriate that is, though, as I'm super anglophone. :P
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

Well, it's one thing to ask a mexican if they speak spanish. However, it is a common mistake to accidentally ask a mexican if they are spanish. Ooo...yeah, that will not go over well with the ladies.... :-X

Odd when you think that cars for men are popularly supposed to be virility symbols.
Some ideas are so stupid only an intellectual could believe them (Orwell).
