I figured we needed a place to post things we draw and I don't think we already have a massive art thread...just scattered threads. So...this is the member art thread sticky.
To start it, here is the latest thing I have worked on...the Texas Freethought Convention website: http://www.texasfreethoughtconvention.com/ (http://www.texasfreethoughtconvention.com/)
The web design is my work, the logo is not. I did draw the bluebonnets...i was surprised they turned out well since I'm not that great at sketching.
Header shown in attachment, see link for entire site design.
well I do some photography and some "furry" works. My arts are scattered all over the net

OK, here is a picture that I created more than 26 years ago, when I was still young (but not so innocent). I used some mixed techniques at at time for convenience and "special effects".

Tom, this is really awesome! I love it. Seriously. What techniques did you use to create this? I'm fascinated by your "brush" style and use of color. This shows real balance, composition and feel.

I'm glad that you like it. The flying sauces are pure pencil drawings. The "big" spaceship in the middle was first drawn with a pencil and than inked. The surface of the spaceship was colored with a combination of different pencils and watercolors. The white moon was made with a soft pencil and some watercolor. The entire background, the sun and the planet were made with watercolors; although I also used a soft pencil for the shadow effects.
I'd made 6 Science Fiction paintings between 1982 and 1985(?). Two of these paintings I gave away to family and friends. My first painting got lost, that was an oil painting with all kinds of freaky, planet eating space monsters on it. The other two that I still have are not that good. But I'll post them here any way (perhaps just only for nostalgic reasons).
After my Science Fiction "period", I published a series of chess drawings in a local chess club magazine. Those were the last drawings that I made before I left the Netherlands. No later work of mine exists (yet). To be honest, I like the chess drawings more than my Science Fictionr stuff.
Boy, these are all great. I've been a fan of MariaEvri's art for some time now...
At the beginning of this year I decided to stop doing an "angry political blog" I had since 2004 and start posting drawings of happy furry animals. Sort of a healing process for me. I've been pleased with the results. So, I've gotten to one doodle of an animal per week (sometimes cleaned-up and colored in Photoshop).
Here's next week's post, a special sneak preview just for my HAF buddies:

OK, well here follows some later work of mine. This is the first part of the chess opening series that I made for a local chess club's magazine. The originals were black and white ink drawings, some of them I painted with water colors after they were returned by the "publisher".
It started with my favorite opening "The Italian Game" (1. e4 e5; 2. Nf3 Nc6; 3. Bc4)
Followed by the Russian Game and King's Indian defense. The Russian text was translated for me by my Polish friend. It is real text about the Russian Game from an old East German chess-book. The last line is my name in Russian. For the King's Indian defense I was looking for some pictures of Indian elephants. Since those were pre-Internet times, all I could find were pictures of African elephants. OK, so I made the ears of my elephants a bit smaller, to let them look like if they were Indian.
Russian.jpg[/attachment:8492ork4] King'sIndianDefence.jpg[/attachment:8492ork4]
Next one on the list of Chess opening pictures are the "Bird's Opening" and the "Irregular opening". I took the Bird's opening very literal. When I made the picture,I had the image in my mind that a bird swooped down and "kidnapped" my king. Irregular openings are very obscure and dangerous. If you play them against a strong chess player then you can look forward to a lot of danger. Most likely it is your blood that flows. Have fun.

Well, since I introduced myself as an artist and claimed it as my occupation in my profile, I might as well share some examples of my work. :D Here are a few samples of my paintings from grad school:

Enjoy!
Ellie, I like this style. The fourth painting is my favorite of the group. Can you tell me more about it and them? Also, the porcelain sculptures are really wonderful. Take this as a compliment that I love them, even though I can't really describe why. They just look and "feel" right.
I've come to love many kinds of art even more in recent years as one of my sons is in his Junior year at MICA, in Baltimore, MD. I've been able to see his work change, expand, and mature. It's so cool to see.
Thanks for posting and sharing these!
I fully agree with McQ. Your artistic skills are truly awesome. The fourth picture is also my favorite one and the porcelain sculptures reminds me of some of the best pieces of art that I've seen at MOMA in New York.
Ellie, those are fantastic. Like Tom, it reminds me of the time I spent wandering around MoMA just before New Year's.
Never noticed this thread before... guess I'd better add some of mine.

Those are beautiful, Curio!
The first one looks a LOT like my first painting professor, except that he always kept his hair in a tight little ponytail. I think I only ever saw it down once in four years.

Thank you and, OMG YES! You have no idea how much that could help me to get back on track, in terms of having my work seen again and being involved. Anyway, I've got to create some appearance of a career before I get shunned by my inlaws. :D
great, I don't know when it will be yet but will let you know as soon as I find out. I'm doing this through AIA but if we don't do something there is a guy running PKN in dallas whom I can get you in touch with.
I thought that work looked like mixed media, but this being a two-dimensional web page I didn't want to assume anything. Really great work. You can post anything you want here. Personally, I'd love to see all of your work. We seem to have a very talented group of members here. Some of the artistic expressions we've seen here are extraordinary.
Curio, I really like your photos as well. The first one, which looks like a really cool candid/street shot, is great. That guy's face just tells a story. The colors in the sunset photo are so bold and crisp. On that last shot, it's very cool, but one thing I'd do if it were mine would be to crop it so the person bending over in the lower left corner isn't visible. Otherwise, it's very cool and a little scary! LOL!
I'm still recovering from nerve damage to my dominant hand. But I guess I'm finally willing to put up a little of my art with my new limitations. Since I've lost a great deal of fine control, I've gone to picking out light and shadow rather than line and contour - if that makes any sense.

It makes perfect sense. If I were still teaching drawing, one of the first things I'd tell my students is to learn to do what you're doing - even if they have to bind their fingers together with bandages before trying to draw. This will have a huge impact on your technique and how you 'see' what you're drawing. An excercise I was taught for linear/contour drawing was to draw with a piece of charcoal fixed to the end of a stick, at least three feet long, gripping the other end with only your fingertips, and having only a few seconds to complete a full figure. Most of the drawings done in that way are total crap and don't resemble anything but scratches, much less figures. But most people who try it, after a few days, are much more skillful renderers.
By the way, those two drawings are just gorgeous!
It's late now, but maybe tomorrow I'll share with you some of my work from the last century.

On the print I actually did. That was just the one that I had handy (didn't want to search for the edited version). The guy in the first one was exactly what you said, a candid street shot taken during an international street fair here in town. There was a Jamaican band playing and he was just daaaaaancing, the only guy in the world.

This is a work in progress that I started in early 2009. The companies are the top 50 Fortune 500 companies from the 2008 list, ordered L->R, T->B. So if I decide to update it they will be adjusted accordingly (Lehman Brothers lol). Also, this was still in progress because although I had just finished placing all the logos, I wanted to do apply some kind of filter or effect to give it less of a vector graphic feel. Any input is welcome.

A video I did last weekend (of an art project).
[youtube:36a0a59v]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26djL6xYyCM[/youtube:36a0a59v]
Time Lapse film of sculpting with Cheetos, plus stop motion animation of the cheesy snack food. When I was in school, back in the 80's, I could make armies of "Cheeto People" that would maintain their sculpted poses for weeks with just an Exacto knife and a bag of the "crunchy" variety. Now, there's something different about the crunchy recipe, the cheetos don't hold together. As you can see in the time lapse, I even tried using wire for support and after about 2 hours, got a dinosaur that only stood up for a few seconds. That's why I switched to the stop motion, on a flat surface.
That was awesome! =D
cool, I would have never thought to make stuff out of cheetoes; I think I might end up eating them all if I tried.

KD, I'll echo Pinkocommie's post. I also think your bead work is impressive. As for quilting, I find it amazing that you and other quilters can do those things. I live in an area famous for super-quilting. You all are pretty spectacular with those big jobs.

You're very welcome.
What in particular do you like about the first and third?
Well, I'm not very good at talking about art. But I can tell you that there's something about skeletons that appeals to me...

Me too.
There's a skeleton partially hidden in this one:

What would you have in mind for a band header, if you weren't fighting the urge to have me draw it?

Well, we are called Gallows for the Bride, so it would need to be... Something suitably... Gallowsy
These were done using a sgraffito technique with crayons. I'm not an awesome artist, but I like how they look.

Ooh, nice cakes. My mom makes cakes as a kind of side business. I love how fondant looks, but I hate the taste! Blegh!
Quote from: "pinkocommie"Ooh, nice cakes. My mom makes cakes as a kind of side business. I love how fondant looks, but I hate the taste! Blegh!
Thank you. I only use home made fondant which can actually be tasty and I've played with ways to soften the texture once the fondant is shaped. I use ganache frosting, sour cream frosting or fruit purees under the fondant. They have lots of moisture in them which the fondant wicks up. I also try to increase the humidity of the cake's enclosure for several hours before serving. The Riddle Box ICP cake's fondant was actually very soft - it melted right into the sour cream/chocolate ganache.
I use flavor extracts in my fondant so some of it tastes like candy - vanilla, spearmint, wintergreen, almond, cinnamon, or lemon extract. I usually co-ordinate the flavor of the cake and the fondant.
Ooh, that sounds yummy! If you have any cake decorating lenses, post the links and I'll pass them on to my mom. She loves trying new things and tips for better tasting fondant would be awesome!

Really it's mostly the playing with the substance used as a crumb coat, putting the cake in a jury rigged humidor and kneading flavorings into the fondant. But here's my basic page on how I make fondant (I need to write about my humidity experiments yet)
How to Make Fondant. (http://www.squidoo.com/how_to_make_cake_fondant) The photos are a little iffy but I'm sure your mum doesn't need them. I've also compiled some Squidoo links to fondant pages (including my own) at
Fondant on Squidoo. (http://www.squidoo.com/fondant-on-squidoo)
Making a cake is so exhausting for me (I keep my head wrapped in a towel so if my fever goes berserk I won't drip sweat on anything) that I seldom get good photos of the process. I'll have to rope my partner into the photography part.

All good stuff. I like the active sunset and the lounging bed ones in particular. I hope you stick around, this is a small group, not one of the mega forums and it has a nice feel to it. On the bigger forums I often get a feeling of competition rather than community. The ethos of the board also makes for a nice mix of people so while it says atheist over the door all sorts can rub along beside each other here. Whitney is good at spotting the trouble makes and showing them the door.

Tank, yes, the steel wire rings to make armor. I don't make armor yet though. I mostly do bib necklaces with the steel. I like to integrate crystal with it too.
I do silver, bronze and copper mostly. Right now mostly Bronze as it's inexpensive and really pretty. Copper is really good for large designs and men's jewelry.
I love love love the look of silver, but it's a little expensive. My mom used to want me to make a bib necklace all in gold. I never did it, I can't afford it!

I'm a graphic designer by trade, so I end up doing a lot of sterile, grid-based, digital work, which can be really aesthetically nice in its own right, but I just need to use my hands sometimes. This is a reduction linocut print series that I made a few months ago that illustrates the legend of Pecos Bill.

Is this silver clay or sheet work? Landed myself a big cress kiln so I'm thinking about playing with silver clay sometime in the future to possibly showcase cabbed agates (this is an upcoming hobby actually, I love agate slabs) and the fused glass I already do.
Oh and BTW..... I've got a puddle of drool on the keyboard from all the stuff on your site. I LOVE the unusual stuff.

Brilliant work, seriously let down by the photography though. Your stuff could look 10, maybe 100 times better if photographed properly. If you're up for sending some pieces I'll have a go at doing a better job for you. Photography is my hobby and I specialise in macro work so have the lenses and appropriate lighting gear to get the best out of your stuff. I loved the Ivory work.
Your web site is also note behaving itself correctly.

@KD.The top is sheet work and the nickel/iron meteorite is bezeled in on the bottom. I have not worked with precious metal clay before. I do all my own sheet/wire and casting-everything from scratch. I got into this by doing lapidary work and have always loved cutting stone. Stone sculpture was a natural for me and I took to it like duck to water. I find the learning curve for jewelery rather steep, it is a whole whack of occupations rolled into one. I've been at three years and have so much to learn I think I'm going to need another lifetime before I really get it down to a solid art form. When anyone asks me how to get into art as a career I say there are only two rules: 1) Begin and 2) Continue. Go for it!!
@Tank. Yeah, the photography sux, I do it myself as well-all part of the plan! :) I have more recent pieces on my fb page if anyone is interested:https://www.facebook.com/pages/James-Carman-KirbyWulvzwerx-Arts/187638001249182?ref=ts I had the web site thrown up in a hurry and I really do not like web sites for selling as I have never sold a piece off the web and they are damn expensive. That I am as organized as I am is in itself a miracle, I really like chaos but have to temper it to make ends meet. Art is a very difficult career unless you're in big galleries and making a fair buck for your work which is often not the case.

Awesome! I already do jewelry so the mind is on that train of thought to begin with. What you do in sheet work I do in beads:
http://www.krausdesigns.com/images/center.jpg (http://www.krausdesigns.com/images/center.jpg)
For help on photographing, this is compiled from a bunch of beady friends:
QuoteAfter doing some research on photography tips, this is what I’ve found…
To photograph your jewelry, you need some basic equipment:
1. Camera (no, duh, eh?) From researching, most professional photographs are taken with either a 35mm camera or a digital camera. For photographing jewelry for a website, most people find the use of digital cameras much easier. With a digital camera you don’t have to mess with film and then wait around to use up a whole roll before getting the pictures developed.
Some considerations in choosing a digital camera, are mega pixels, macro settings, and memory. The mega pixel count will determine the quality of your photo, what is called the resolution. The higher the mega pixel, the more detail there will be in your photo. For most web shots, 3mp seems to be sufficient. However, if you are also going to be printing out photos (either for a professional portfolio or personal family portraits), you will want to bump up the number to around 5mp or higher. Keep in mind that the higher the mp count, the heftier the price tag, and the larger the image size.
The macro setting(s) on your camera change the focus of the camera, so it can focus on very close objects often within a few inches or feet away. From my understanding the macro setting is known as the digital zoom of the camera. When looking at the zoom on your digi camera, the optical zoom is hailed as better than a digital zoom; that is, an optical zoom can often give you clearer pics, even if you have to crop the periphery of the photo.
The memory module on the camera stores the photos that you take. Obviously, the larger the memory card (the higher the number of MB), the more pictures it can hold or the larger the pictures it can hold.
Another really nifty feature for the camera to have is an active LCD display screen on the back of the camera. This will allow you to see what setting is on (macro or normal) as well as see the photo after it has been snapped to decide whether a re-shoot is necessary. It’s also really cool to see a pic right away…mucho better than a Polaroid! Mr. Green
Also a consideration for your camera is the battery type it uses and whether or not you want to have an AC adaptor for the "just in case" times you find yourself with dead batteries and no backup. Whistle
2. Tripod This is very helpful in getting clear, quality photos. Even if you have a very steady hand, this can be a very worthwhile investment. They are sold in tabletop models as well as larger floor models. What you are mainly looking for in a tripod is good construction and great stability. You’ll want a tripod that can carry the weight of your camera and its accessories (such as additional flash or lenses), one that doesn’t wobble and one that adjusts to the varying heights that you desire. Also you will want to make sure that the “head†of the tripod will attach to your camera.
3. Lighting To photograph jewelry, you are looking for indirect or diffused lighting to avoid shadows and excessive reflections. Indirect natural sunlight works well for some. There are also photography tents and domes that work to diffuse light while you display your piece. You can also construct one of your own using nylon fabric or a plastic milk jug.

One thing I like to do is get a 3 gallon white bucket, cut a hole in the bottom the same size as my lens, set up lights around the bucket to shine through the white walls and turn off the flash. This method takes a bit of tweaking but you'll get less harsh light, no flash, no shadows and if you have a setting to play with the color intake you can change it around to find what works best.
To give you an idea of what you can do, this was shot with 3 true spectrum bulbs outside a 1 gallon white paint bucket on top of a white melamine shelf with my crappy little autofocus digital :

Beautiful Work!! Did you do the cabochon as well?
Thanks for the photo tips, I like the bucket idea and will try it
I got the cab from S&S Lapidary, www.sandslapidary.com (http://www.sandslapidary.com) , I Love their unique cuts. About half my collection of cabs have come from them.
Right now I'm rocking with an area native before I move away, she's shown me quite a few interesting places to hunt at. Mostly I'm looking for topaz, just to say I have some from here before I leave but I've also landed myself a bunch of banded flint/chert I'll be slabbing out once I get moved and can get my hands on the equipment. Mostly for practice, though I do see a ton of potential in the stones, they keep 'talking' to me.
I still can't figure out how to attach pictures...oh well. Here are some photos that were vetted on CNN. They're from my trip to Europe this past January. http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-547837 (http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-547837)

These guys have some nice rocks! this one http://www.sandslapidary.com/servlet/the-252/Chrysoprase-Designer-Cabochon/Detail is very nice, chrysoprase is one of my favorite stones. Keep letting those rocks "speak" to you, it is a magical art form.
New user here... attracted by the thread posted on Twitter!
I am an artist who uses text as part of the artwork itself. I'm always looking for interesting, thought-provoking, or otherwise cool text to use in my artwork. Catch is, it really should be public domain or creative commons. I'm looking for poetry, essays, short opinion pieces, etc.
Suggestions? Thanks!
I just took up acrylic painting. Fun but frustrating. I do ten times more reading about how to do it than actual painting.
This is a work in progress that I'm hoping to get done by January for an art show at school. Done completely from scratch.

Very impressive. I have very little artistic capability so I take photos of what I can't draw.
Waarg. I said I'd post something but I realized I don't really have much in the way of finished art to show off. I mostly just fill sketchbooks with sketches from photos/magazines/people in my immediate area at this point. I can't put my noodz from figure drawing on Photobucket so here's a ginormous disorganized pile of sketchpoop (click the + signs for direct image links):

Not bad... I'm not into those kinds of drawings, really, but I always appreciate it when some artists do NOT do those stupid jappo-style take-up-half-a-face eyes.
Haha, thanks Asmodean. I still love the anime style, but the generic stuff is really obnoxious and I try to distance myself from it. But like a lot of people in my age group, that was what was popular and that was how I started drawing. I'll have to find a host that allows nudes so I can post my classwork.

Excellent range of styles. And the last one is wonderful.

Not bad... I'm not into those kinds of drawings, really, but I always appreciate it when some artists do NOT do those stupid jappo-style take-up-half-a-face eyes.
I usually don't mind the Anime style, but there is a fine line between large eyes and just plain creepy. Unfortunately that line is crossed way to many times.

Hey, Budhorse, those are lovely.
Nice stuff, Budhorse!
I'm currently working on a creative non-fiction submission for CBC's "Canada writes" contest. I'm about 25% through. I'm finding it difficult because most of the things I write are usually spouted off with little thought, i.e. here or on my blog.
I'll let you know how it goes.
I'm extremely jealous of anyone who can draw or sculpt. There's some really beautiful stuff here.
A friend of mine started a surreal fiction blog last year that never went anywhere. He never promoted it and I think he got bored of the idea before it had even started. Anyway, I made one contribution to it, which I've found again:
The Amphibian Heart (http://cronehole.wordpress.com/2011/02/28/the-amphibian-heart/)
I'll probably get him to take it down soon. I have very mixed feelings about the story itself, plus I don't like the idea of having work online.
I may or may not include it in a short story compilation I'm putting together to stick on Lulu, which will be my first attempt to actually "publish" anything, if it can even be called that, so I'll see what people think of it. Could definitely use some editing.

Wow Budhorse and Maria, both of your pictures were lovely!
(Sorry, haven't gotten the chance to scroll back through everyone else's work just yet, or read Melmoth's story.)
I have almost zero artistic talent, so I doubt I'll be contributing much to this page. I'm very impressed by those of you that are so artsy though!

Really nice. I love the look that IR can give to landscapes. One small suggestion on this photo would be to make that car disappear. Very easy to do in PS. Obviously, if you can get the shot without the car in it at the start it's even easier! Lol!
But this is a great IR subject and you nailed it!

Lol! I tried to combine a Disney style with a few elements of anime. Donno, I was mostly experimenting with a new style.
I have a bit of an unorthodox style which consists purely of loose line-work and strange shapes. Not sure what would be a good example...I know. Here's the entire cast of characters from my graphic novel(Hastily drawn in sharpie and then scanned right now, but it'll do the trick. :D)

Thanks Maria. I sell at events and off my own website. :) I might add etsy at some point, but have hesitated because I enjoy selling at live events. Right now I'm ramping up to vend at renaissance faires, and am swamped with commissions and building fantasy inventory. Most of my work, to date, has been greyhound related, and I sell at greyhound events along the east coast.
Here's an example of one of my greyhound wall hangings before it was quilted together ...

So I was working on a steam punky western animation with a few friends, I don't know if it's going to take off at all, but here are a few of the things I made for it:
The sketch for the main characters gun:

The render of it:

Started working on the main characters clockwork limbs:

Rough cut of the theme music:

Then one of my little bros and I are maybe making a Super Metroid animation while I'm teaching him how to do all sorts of 3D things. Nothing has any real textures, because we haven't worked on them yet.
What I have of the ship so far:

In the revolver the barrel is in front of the wrong cylinder chamber vs where the hammer will strike.
[/geek]
Love the look though ;D
EDIT. If you turned the hammer through 90 degrees and lowered it to align with the bottom chamber you could cock the gun by pushing the hammer forward against a spring loaded pivot with your thumb in a single or double action mechanism. Inelegant, but functional.

No worries Tanke,
If you look closely at the render, you'll see that the hammer is already aligned the correct way. I fixed it during the modeling. I referenced real bottom barreled revolvers.

Not that I know of. I suppose for a quick draw, pushing the hammer forward is more natural than pulling it back while drawing, but I've never attempted quick drawing. The kick feels different and aiming is little different, but I don't mind either.
I've been working on a game, I think it's far enough to show what I got so far. Most of the fun complicated stuff is done, and all that's left is tedious programming, graphics, sound effects, level design and music.
The general idea is to spoof classic space shooters in a fun and respectful way. The stars unrealistically moving super fast behind a slow moving sun and planets is a call back to virtually all space shooters.

Blender, I used to not like it and preferred and payed for other software (3DSMax and Maya). Maya still does a few things better, but Blender has made some major improvements over the last few years and I think it will catch up soon. The modeling interface is what I really like about Blender, it takes a lot less time in Blender for me than any other modeling software.

I'm a chainmailler. I made a piece to sell at a charity auction and it sold this weekend for $65!!! It's gold anodized aluminum with crackle glass beads. I even made the clasp. Please note, this is not my neck but that of a friend.

Some short stories available in print or digital. I'm also fully responsible for the music for the podcast (intro and soundtrack for the first story... the outro was done by an actual musician). I also did the very limited amount of graphics work that needed to be done except the cover, a talented person drew the cover.
The print and digital versions cost some, but the podcast is free.

Wow. You've really got some talent there, beachdragon. The cross-stitch looks particularly cool. Also, Green Eggs and Horror looks pretty interesting, Davin. Did you make your avatar, as well?
I've drawn on and off for years. Since I was about seven years old, actually. Here's one of my most recent drawings:
(https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg51.imageshack.us%2Fimg51%2F4954%2Fz2ad.jpg&hash=2b6f520600952a0b99f10f6fda938ab38baeba76)
It's in the style of anime, but the character isn't really of anyone in particular. It's just a young man in a military-ish uniform, is all. Oh, and MariaEvri, I love your dragon, as well. In particular, your use of color is pretty awesome. I rarely use color at all, probably because I don't own any art supplies, and have to do everything with a mechanical pencil, so it's awesome to see stuff like this! ;D

Thanks Tank. I think that there is far too much emphasis, however, on talent over practice. I've produced some ugly stuff over the years, especially in the beginning. In fact, I probably would be least likely to have had talent in the beginning. Your son, on the other hand, probably has more talent than I ever could. His paintings must be lovely.
Of course, I also find your extensive military knowledge impressive. Especially the way you can recall all this data about Tanks and Armoured Vehicles. That's an awesome passion. :)

I like that drawing and the style. I've also drawn since I was very young, but you can't tell from my drawings (they still look kinda crappy most of the time).
You're drawing style looks like you're a bit tense when doing it, Davin. I recognize it, because my style was like that around my senior year of high school. But don't beat yourself up, because you can do those awesome animations you showed us. That, my friend, takes dedication and skill.
I can draw somewhat well, but only with a 0.5mm pencil. I've never used anything, because I've never had anything else, so I'd really suck at making those 3D renders. Be proud of them. They're really good. ;D
Nah, I'm rarely ever tense, and never when I'm drawing.
I like it Davin! Very good!

I actually buy my rings (cutting rings make me want to hurt someone). I get them from www.theringlord.gomc. :)
That Green Eggs and Horror (http://greeneggsandhorror.com/) short story podcast I've been working on is finally complete, we released them all on our schedule of one every two weeks, and now all twelve stories are complete.
The audio versions are free.
I spent part of the afternoon yesterday with my niece, and besides going to the bookstore, stopping for coffee, smoothies and Iced Lemon Cake (Yes I had some) we did spent some time drawing.
We decided to do some self-portraits, and here are a few of mine. (Her's turned out really well, but she took them with her and the picture I took of her drawings turned out all blurry so I can't them)
When we finished she said, "Uncle Bruce those are pictures of monkeys you were supposed to draw yourself, and I said yes that's correct, but those are how I perceive myself. So she took a close look and said, "That one on the upper right does kind of look like you, especially the hair and beard (Stubble)". ;D

Thanks, I'm still working on it. Seems her head is a little small. Oh well, that's what erasers are for. lol
Okay, I made her head a little bigger and gave her more neck plus I changed the view and definition of her face. I think I'm done with her. It was an experiment not meant to be a finished project for hanging. I am satisfied with her.
I do want to say that I know obese people make the majority of people uncomfortable. That is one of the reasons I have chosen to do this and have an interest in doing more. I have seen some of the loveliest pieces of art I have ever seen with an obese subject and as an obese person I find this a very enlightened idea and goal. I want people to see people as beautiful, interesting, worthy humans no mater what their outward appearance. I also am drawn to the aged face as well and will be doing some of those in the future.
It's okay if you don't like or fear commenting on controversial images (or if my skill level is inadequate because I'm just beginning again and I know they are rough) but as secular freethinking reasoned individuals I do challenge you to think outside the box as to what you can perceive as beautiful or lovely. Not necessarily my work but any work or person for that matter.
I find simple point of view challenges very stimulating whether I change my POV or not. :)

The sort of body shape that has been 'desirable' for women has changed so much throughout history. I quite like this short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xrp0zJZu0a4
I do think women (and men) of all shapes and sizes can look beautiful but I also think it's natural that people have a preference that they are attracted to.

I absolutely agree that whatever turns you on turns you on but we as a culture have become so critical of pounds vs. beauty that I just wanted to challenge people to consider your concepts and see if you'd like to challenge your ideals of what you think beauty is. I enjoy that kind of thing and pick things, sometimes quite randomly, but often when I have realized I have a preconceived notion and want to push the envelope on my assumptions.

Thinking about men.... I personally don't find overly groomed skinny men attractive.
This guy, whoever he is (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/fd/10/d9/fd10d96013f576d21c77f2693ac8b2be.jpg) is probably considered beautiful by many and is obviously a desirable type as he looks like he's modelling but he just does nothing for me. I do agree that beauty is more than just the outward appearance and if this guy happened to be a funny, sensitive, kind-hearted leftie then he may grow on me ;)

Oh yes, I agree and even guys that are nice to look at often don't really do it for me because I'm so in tune with the attractiveness of personality that without some inkling of personality, charm, wit and humor I just can't be interested.
I do know that outwardly I'm not immediately attracted to small men (that may have something to do with my own size insecurity) or the well-groomed or more effeminate types but if, as you say, he's witty, funny, smart and kind (and I will add) with a huge sexual appetite I could rock that like a bad girl. lol

This is a nice sketch MzLee, I thought you captured the curves of the body quite well, and believe it to be quite flattering to her figure. (If you don't mind me saying the head seems a bit off, as in too small? Not the face, and I like the cascading hair, but overall size of the head, and if bumped up a bit would fill it out nicely)
Your model is quite lovely, and I think societies ideas of acceptable beauty are way too skewed by the air-brushed models of Madison Avenue, and our notion that any acceptance of those unnatural ideals we find attractive are necessarily fetish driven.

Thank you, I appreciate your kindness. I did turn her face out a bit more and made her head a bit larger but not too much because not all large people have large or even fat heads and it does make them a little disproportionate.

The set of the mouth is a bit atheist, but the nose looks Catholic. ;)

She definitely has an atheist mouth (a snarky one too) but I don't know about the nose. You know it's a common issue with artists to not put their own nose on the faces they draw/paint/sculpt. I struggle with this as well but I did good here. It's not quite her nose but it is not my nose. :)
MzLee. Do you use any frame works before you start making heavier marks or do you just draw the features?

I start off with framing the face then start the features. Right now I'm really just focusing on the medium and trying to remember some of the techniques I've forgotten.

Thank you. This is the one I'm working on now. I will lay in some color washes this weekend to develop my pallete and probably start on a canvass with acrylics the week after.

beautiful!
Thx, not quite, still raw yet but eventually, I hope. Good, bad or indifferent, I will post it. :)

I agree with Larry, I love that. I would frame that.
Okay, here is the color wash that I did tonight to set my palette. I think I will most likely put a pattern on the drapes and possibly show her face a bit more. I d love the voyeuristic feel of the rear view so not too much of the face. (Sorry for the puddling, I was trying to finish and friend was texting me...)
"don't text and paint!"

I'm really excited about the framing colors of blues, reds and purples with the greens around the central figure. I'm happy with it. :)
Exquisite, infused with light...
Thank you, dear, very kind of you. I hope the acrylic on canvass comes out well. It's been so long I'm nervous about it. :)
There is a local atheist young man that has cancer. He had it before and was in remission but now it's back. A local gallery is having a fund raising auction for him and they asked people to give them their rendition of a picture that means a lot to this guy and his wife.
This is the pic. They are on the boat on the left.

This is my impressionist rendition of it.
I will deliver this to the gallery this week. The auction is in June.

Kudos to the gallery. Some of our best charities are less than inclined to support atheist young men.

They are part of our atheist community and yes they are nice women who own/run it.

Lovely boats (and a good cause) - Kudos!
Thanks, they gotten 30 pieces donated. Hope the auction goes well.
Great watr'y palette...nice boats.
Decided to take up some cartooning again with the elections coming on.
Need to get some proper tools but until then, thought I'd share this for a bit of fun.

Show us some more of them Lee. You do have a sharp wit and a twisted creative mind.

Sorry it's a bit blurry, I was standing on my tiptoes to try and get it all in.
This is the start of my quilt.
This is the close-up of one end.

They look super. I bet it's harder to do that it looks. Most things are; except falling over.

I machine sew my quilts so it really isn't that hard if you like to puzzle piece things. It is very time consuming if your pattern is complicated. I have made some very complex patterns. This one is not one of those. I just haven't been feeling it lately.
I'm not liking these combination of fabrics as I thought I would. The pale cream is too pale but I'm not yet sure what I will do about it.
My choices are:
Replace center panel with something else.
Applique a darker color in a design over the center panel to diminish the amount of the lighter material seen.
Use a dark thread and small quilting pattern to quilt the top (will darken the fabric by covering it in more dark thread).
Plus using a lighter color thread to the top of the darker colors.
Not sure what I will do but I'm leaning towards replacing center panel. If I can find material I like I will probably do that because I think it's not just the light shade but the pattern differences that are bothering me.
to be continued...
looks really nice. Reminds me of one my mom used to have, All nice and warm and cuddly
I haven'tdone any super art lately so here's one of my furry stuff (gasp furries run!!!)

Thanks, I'm redoing it but I'll post pics when it's done.
Nice work! Love the colors and the action. :)
Okay, I took the quilt apart and redesigned and reworked it. So much better now. I will send the top and back to the quilters in a couple weeks and when I get it back I'll repost it, by then I'll have the pillows done too.

The wide band of fabric is actually purple though it looks blue in this pic and the small square and the large square in the wide band are the wine color and they look purple. Weird, must be the lighting/shadowing. The top pic shows the colors as they are.
That is amazing!!!
Thanks, I am pleased with it. Can't wait to see it completed. :)

Those flowers fit very well...
I've wanted a good quild for a few years now. The comforters you buy at the store don't last and lack the weight a quilt provides. Very nice work.
