Title: End of the world in 5 days
Post by: Gawen on October 16, 2011, 07:39:18 PM
Don't forget Harold Camping's prophecy. Last May was the renamed and re prophesied "spiritual" rapture. In five days, it'll be the end of the world.

I can't wait...

Silly/serious answer.  I wouldn't pay anything, but I would redouble my efforts to collect what was owed to me.  It takes money to survive an apocalypse, you know.

Although I'm fully aware that 99.9% of christians scoff at Camping and his followers silly beliefs, the irony has not escaped me that it is just one bunch of people with silly beliefs mocking/ignoring another bunch of people with silly beliefs.

Neither side has anything to say that is based in facts or evidence, and the christians rebuttal of Campings ridiculous claims are generally based on the bible apparantly saying that man will not know the time of the rapture. That, rather than ridiculing Camping on the basis of common sense and the fact that he has no evidence to support his claims.

And if any christians DO ridicule Camping based on reason, common sense and evidence, they leave their own silly belief system wide open to question, as you can't really apply reason and evidence to one thing but not another without looking like a muppet.

There are so many predictions like this that one day one of them will come true by chance.  If we have a nuclear war or get zapped by an asteroid, it's likely that some nutter will have called the end of the world on that day.
But at least nobody will be around to say "Told you so!"

I predict that God will, one day, turn the celestial light switch off and the sun will be no more. Kinda like when the acetylene torch goes 'POP' when you turn it off. Course, the pop will envelope the earth and then god will have cleansed the earth with fire as he says in the Bible.

Dontcha just love woo?

Many good points in your post, but the main reason I ridicule Camping is because in the past 200 years, we've had a gazillion of these guys giving us a date, and it never happens.  Now, the next one is going to be December 21, 2012.  I suggest that everyone invest in Cabela's or some other outfitter company, because there is going to be a run on guns, tents, camping supplies, etc.  Then December 22, 2012 will come, and you will be rich.

I dunno. Do ducks pooh in the woods? Lord love a duck? I don't think so. All that quacks is not homoeopathy. Things that go quack in the night.

But back to the actual theme of the thread (ahem). We haven't seen Bruce or Bandit or CForce lately. Could it be...??? But what if they're still around and not raptured upwards. Does that mean we'll be together for eternity? How embarrassing for them, not to be chosen and that, and winding up with the likes of us.

In all seriousness, does anyone know what time this is going to happen? UTC preferably, but if you only know the local time, please specify your time zone. Because I need to know what meals I should cater for tomorrow.

I seem to remember that the rapture-that-wasn't was scheduled on some sort of rolling basis, so that everyone got beamed up at 1800 local time or whenever it was. Is the end of the world going to be the same? I don't see that working too well, but what do I know?

Anyway, to get back to the point, if it's scheduled for, say, 1700 our time then I'll just not bother shopping for supper. But if it's going to be at 2000 then we can eat half an hour early.

In either case, is that cause for concern, Bruce? FWIW, I wish you no ill. If you'd rather be up there with the righteous rather than down here with us lowlifes. I would never hold that against you. I you're happy then I'm happy.  :) As simple as that.

2 worrying events, though. This morning there was a ginormous flock of birds lined up along the branches of a pine tree. By the time I had picked up the binoculars to see what sort of birds they were, they had vanished into the sky!!!

Also, yesterday the people of Trieste had their umbrellas destroyed by a combination of torrential rain and high winds: the public wastebins tell the tale.

I don't know. One sex crazed 76yo virgin nun could probably outdo 72 9yo Aisha look alikes who would rather be playing with their dollys. I'd say Gaddagi has finally met his match  ;D

Not so fast guys, we have a little over 16 hours left to go, by my time zone. However, if this is running off Jewish Mean Time, the day ends at sundown (5:01pm Jerusalem time and it's after 3:30pm there). So I have a little over an hour before the world ends.

BTW, Camping hasn't been heard from in the last couple days.

I couldn't see any crazy old man riding it though, so hopefully it's just part of the usual dragon migration heading south for the winter...
No 6th head ergo harmless. Not impressed in the least. Did you make it yourself?

You don't find it scary? In the slightest?
Damn!
It's a toy of Tiamat, the oldest dragon of them all.

Somebody should nail him up and we'd find out.  ;D
Na, they tried that before and it just confused the issue.

As you will probably realise once you've woken up, the world has not ended. My kitten and I are both awake with no signs of anything being amiss. Lest you are wondering how this is possible, I offer you the following explanation.
Quote
Harold Camping (pictured to the right) is a false prophet!
"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." —Matthew 7:15
This is not my view this is god's view. And since christians don't make things up, this must be true. Further it is featured on god's official website.

I think that this takes a load off all our minds.

...prophesised humanity would be wiped out in the rapture on May 21 with a series of earthquakes followed by months of torment for those left behind.

QuoteMr Camping's daughter Susan Espinoza told Winnipeg News: 'I'm sorry to disappoint you, but we at Family Radio have been directed to not talk to the media or the press.'

I wonder if his faith has been shaken at all?

Imagine the horror of getting to 90 years old, your life being all but over, and potentially could end at any time, and coming to the realisation that actually, god and heaven and hell is all bull?

It must be horrifying because you may feel you've wasted your life and haven't got enough time to accept the enormity of the thought that you draw your last breath and it's lights out for good.

I think I'd feel robbed.

Still here in the UK, all seems well.
What gets me about all this is what damage it does to those who think Camping is right.

Back in May loads of people were waiting to hear the sound of a trumpet and be raptured into heaven, knowing that they would be leaving loved ones who did not quite hit the mark to burn in hell. Not that it would worry them as when they go to heaven they would forget all the ones left behind. But nothing happened, have i been left behind? was i not good enough? what about my credit card that i maxed out  thinking i would not be paying it back.

Whoops Harold got his date wrong never mind its back on for October. October 21st again nothing happens.

I read a story about a gourp who booked into a flash hotel in South Africa so they could all be together for the rapture, when nothing happened they were faced with a large bill.

What would be funny would be if someone went round to Campings house at night with a trumpet and a search light. :D

STOP PRESS: Worrying resurrection news from Italy.

About 3 hours ago I zapped an annoying giant buzzy fly with one of those Chinese mozzy-killer tennis racquets that electrocute the buggers. It crackled and sparked and I dropped it into the waste-paper basket.

10 minutes ago there was a buzzing noise as a fly tried to escape through the closed window. I looked in the waste-paper basket ... and the corpse was gone.

N.B. No stones were rolled away during this process.

Praise Jesus! 10 minutes instead of 3 days! But then a fly is smaller.
