The thread "A scrupulously impartial review of this site by a person with no axes to grind" has been moved out of sight into the staff forum where search engines cannot find it. It has not been deleted or modified. I have done this as there were mixed feelings about it's content, direction and potential real-world impact. I did not want to delete the thread as that action could not be reversed if at some point the consensus is to return the thread to plain sight.

If you wish to comment on this action (which can be reversed) in any way please drop me a PM.

I will refrain from comment about the action right now, but I have to ask why comments can't be discussed here in this thread?

You can comment here if you'd prefer. I just thought people might be more open in a PM.

E is no longer a member here due to forced membership revocation, right? We can still not make the personal information he provided upon registering public due to our own privacy rules, but those do not apply to information found elsewhere.

Bottom line: The thread should be allowed to stick around, but be closely moderated to prevent accidental or otherwise leaks of personal information submitted upon registration or given to the staff with the expectation of non-disclosure.

I disagree.  I think it reflects poorly on us that we had posted his full name, his occupation, the state that he lives in.  If some future employer googled him and he didn't get the job because of everything we said about him, that would be a bad thing.  I realize that most of that info is out there to be found because he left it out there, but still.  Let him hang himself with his own rope if he wants, we don't need to be a party to it.  We're better than that.

I disagree with your disagreement. We are allowed to redistribute public information non-profit as long as the author is credited with stage, pen and/or actual name and as long as such redistribution is not prohibited by the local terms of use.

Personally, I think him sharing this information with us, leaving it all around the internet and persistently badgering our community specifically by name could very easily be considered him hanging himself with his own rope.

Way to go all lawyer on me!  LOL  It may be legal to do it, but it makes me feel icky.  How's that?

Asmodean

Lawyer? The Asmo..? Nah... Not enough killer instinct  ;D

I can sort of comprehand icky... As for his job interviews, I don't think we can sabotage those any more thoroughly than he can do himself no matter what we say.

Well that's probably true enough.  I can only imagine him listing "Founder of the Veridican religion" on this resume or something...

'Sides, I tend to compare other www users to me, and if someone wants to know my Internet habits with sufficient reason, they have only to ask and I will give them my browsing history and all the electronic footprints I can remember setting. Why would one put something on the public parts of the internet if one wants to hide it from one's future bosses? Put the skeletons you are less than proud of in the closet and eat the key is what I say.

I don't know that he's sane enough to make those sort of rational distinctions.

Asmodean

...And if a potential employer was looking for someone sane, we would be doing that employer a favour, yes?  ;D

Yeah, this is kind of how I feel about. I, personally, don't have a big taste for vigilantism, but I don't feel compelled in the slightest to consciously make his life any  easier out of a sense of "niceness".  I would hope that if he has a legitimate medical condition, his wife or loved one would intervene to prevent him from doing too much damage to himself, but we don't know one way or another. His actions, which we do know, have painted him as an idiot and that's enough to remove any sense of debt to him from my mind. He's made a contracted effort to put his name on the internet, has acted like an idiot on the internet. It only makes sense to me that X + Y = Z if he gets negative backlash from that.

I don't feel an obligation to make his life any easier (not like I'm going to give him my personal cell # and offer career counseling); but I do think that there is something to be said for not intentionally contributing to making it harder, either.  The distinction has more to do with who I want to be as a person than it does who he is.  He's an idiot, but that's on him.  I don't want more of the negativity splashed on us, because then that's on us.
