Hmm I wonder what the French political reaction to this event will be. The burka is already banned and there is/was all the commotion about halal meat in the french presidential campaign just prior to the shootings taking place. I can imagine this is going to be a major campaign point for winning votes and maybe Le Penn might have a chance of getting in now (I hope not though).
It will be interesting to see how the politicos exploit this.

I was listening to the live feed and a Jewish commentator said this was an example of how dangerous France was for Jews so they should all move to Israel!  Seriously? I would thought France was considerably safer for Jews than Israel!

Islam is a religion of peace for the vast majority of its adherents. But with around 1,000,000,000 followers 0.1% represents 1million nutters. That's an awful lot of nutters to give the other 99.9% a bad name.
true, I wouldn't argue with you that there are plenty of peaceful Muslims, I'm less sure about Islam as a religion / philosophy though. I've also read the Qur'an, and it's as far away from a pleasant read or a book to promote peace as you could wish to find. I think monotheistic religions by their nature have a habit of breeding intolerance, a belief that every other god, and every other religion or belief system must be wrong.

I see your distinction. The majority of Muslims are peaceful even though the theology they follow may not be.

The Magic Pudding

QuoteFIVE men killed in overnight raids in Bali were Islamic terrorists seeking money to pay for attacks on targets including a popular bar in the Seminyak tourist zone, police have alleged.

Authorities say the dead men were part of a broader network, and that others from the group are still at large. ''This group is a dangerous group and they have [an organisational] structure in various provinces,'' a senior counterterrorism official, Petrus Golose, told a parliamentary committee yesterday.

Sorry I don't have an intelligent comment to add to that, I'll try to think up two next time.

Yeah, that's how I see it, but it's just my personal view

Toulouse killings: Mohamed Merah brother charged

QuoteThe brother of the man who killed seven people in south-west France in recent weeks has been charged over the murders, judicial sources say.

Abdelkader Merah, 29, is suspected of complicity in murder and theft, and involvement in terrorism. He will be kept in custody, prosecutors said.

Abdelkader Merah denies the accusations but says he was there when his brother stole a scooter used in the attacks.

He reportedly said he was proud of his brother, who was killed on Thursday...
