Thats how I have always used it though. If I say 'interesting' in a work situation I'm really saying 'its not bad (translation = good) but totally wrong'.

yeah, I thought the same thing. Pretty much all the others ring true, and is just us Brits being super polite, but if I say I think something's very interesting it's because I genuinely think it's very interesting.

American's are nowhere near this polite. Although, I speak a sub-american cultural dialect. Let's see here...

"Here, look..." -> I'm trying to help.
"Yeah right." -> What you just said is stupid.
"I need to go." -> You should go.
"Not necessarily." -> I disagree.
"Maybe..." -> The solution is obvious.
"I'm just trying to help." -> Why can't you take my advice!??

The list goes on and on.
