Ye I think it's a bit harsh to write off an instrument, unless a neighbour plays it often and badly.  Saxophones are so important to R&B, I like how Mick Taylor blends bluesy guitar with saxophone on the later part of Can You Hear Me Knocking.

It Makes No Difference from The Last Waltz has a nice Soprano Saxophone solo by Garth Hudson.

I think saxophone features in a lot of my favourite albums, Dark Side of the Moon, Transformer, Bowie stuff...

Ali

I like saxophones too, Pudding.  Then again, I'm pretty much always a sucker for a song with horns.

I was in the middle of a run the other night.
Next minute, this guy stops me to ask for directions.
Bloody hell, was I annoyed, he even had a map with him and the place was well sign posted.

I'd never (well, unless it was life threatening) consider stopping someone that is exercising in order to ask for directions.

When used in the background then saxophones are occasionally bearable for me (like on "Dark Side of the Moon"). But as solo instrument, I can't stand them at all (especially in Jazz music).

Jazz for me is an acquired taste in the same way as having my fingernails pulled out would be.
